Why FSU?

Easier competition then UF, more research opportunities (or so I hear), nice new science building, I don't really know much else- but it's a decent school for undergrad

Keep focused though. I know quite a handful of people that had their GPA tanked or dropped out due to too much partying at FSU.

Seemed like a major party school to me when I visited. Could be a blessing in disguise, though.

As an FSU high school graduate, current FSU Biochemistry major, & FSU Med hopeful (I find out tomorrow if I'm accepted), I can honestly say that FSU was the best thing that ever happened to me. The social atmosphere is good, quite, but FSU is also very supportive of its students' academic careers. There are endless resources to help you succeed in whatever field you choose. The research opportunities are large here, as well as our travel abroad options.

Highly recommend a visit. Good luck!

I went to FSU for undergrad and i'm now an MS3 at FSU COM......it's a great school. A lot of my friends from high school ended up at UF, but both of my folks went to FSU so my choice was obvious. FSU has much more of a small school feel than UF, I never felt lost in the sea of people, and I felt like I was always treated well. At the end of the day, your undergrad institution needs to just be somewhere you feel comfortable. Basically, when applying for med school (assuming you're still set on that in 4 years) you either went to a top tier school (harvard, yale, hopkins, etc) or a state school. I don't anticipate much of a difference in your application to medical school being influenced by whether you go to FSU, UF, UM, USF, etc.......You just need to do (very) well, get a solid MCAT and be involved in solid extra-cirriculars. Also, you can't a degree in 'pre-med' anywhere......you can major in anything as long as you take bio 1/2, chem 1/2, orgo 1/2, physics 1/2, biochem 1; Feel free to ask me any more q's on FSU or FSU COM
