Why goto a competitive med school?

If you want to go into a non-competitive field (i.e internal med. or family med. or obgyn) does it realy matter which med. school you goto?

if you want to be a general practicioner in those fields, it doesn't really matter--go where you'll be happiest. if you want to be an academician in those fields, name plays a role.

If you want to be in Academia at a "PRESTIGIOUS" medical school then name plays a roll. But, so many schools take faculty (even from less specialized fields) straight from their own residency programs...
