The ophtho forum used to be a lot more exciting a few years ago. New threads were being started almost daily followed by no less than 10 replies from students, residents, etc.

These days, besides the occasional back and forth with our optometrist brothas, all I hear is the sound of crickets in here.

What gives? We need to get this party going again people!

Oh, and g'luck to everyone on the internship match on Monday.

it only picks up during interview season. lots of people read the posts, but don't bother to post themselves.

As mentioned, it's much busier in the interview season. On top of that, the members who are in residency are hunkering down for OKAPS. Those who in their first year our of residency have boards next week. And those in their second year out have oral boards coming up.

Also, anytime we get a heated flame war going on (usually in the ever present OD scope of practice threads) the thread gets closed. Not that I disagree with that since it certainly keeps things civil. However, less drama leads to less posting and less traffic. So it's a two edged sword.

Yeah I figured once SF match was over that we'd see less of those X-ophtho program vs. Y-ophtho program threads. And I completely forgot about the OKAPs being next month. So I can see why the ophtho party kinda died. But if you look at some of the other forums on SDN there are multiple active discussions going on, no matter what the time of the year...

My favorite is probably the anesthesia forum. There's threads about CRNAs, residency, fellowship, the real estate market and even loan consolidation. Those guys are very business-savy!

The Rads forum is blowing up with MS-3 converts claiming their new found love for Radiology (and Rad's ridiculous salary ---> thanks ApacheIndian!). That forum really makes Rads seem like the premier specialty in medicine.

So then what seperates those forums from ours? It's the many residents and attendings who post almost on a daily basis. And you can see why those forums are crawling with MS-3/4's. They have a mentor(s) of sorts on SDN at all times. It's really great.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that ophtho is an AMAZING field occupied with some of the brightest minds in medicine. And the ophtho forum should reflect that with active discussions (besides the OD's in Oklahoma sticky) related to our profession.

The few residents and attendings who post on the ophtho forum are doing a fantastic job and I'm very greatful for their continued support. So if you're a ophtho resident or attending reading this post PLEASE open an account and let your voice be heard. We (students) need your wisdom on SDN.

Ok, I'm done. Thanks for listening guys.
