I am a biology major and minor in business administration. My current GPA is 3.28. Before last semester, I had a GPA of 3.45.

I did really bad last semester. I got an A from a humanity class, Cs for cell biology and systems physiology and a C+ in an accounting class. I am planning to retake cell biology and systems physiology during the summer. I am also planning to take a math class to boost up my GPA since i am really good at math.

Will I still get into medical school with a GPA like this? My school is famous for grade deflation, and the premed advisor said the chance of a student with a 3.4 GPA from my school has 70% chance of getting in. Will those two Cs affect my chance of getting in significantly?

Do you have any advise?

thanks

What school do you go to?

And yes you will most likely get into A medical school, just be sure to do well on your MCATs

I advise finding someone else to give you advice. A 3.4 is fine, but medical school admissions is not based purely on GPA. There is simply no way to give someone a percentage odds of gettin in someplace based on a GPA. MCAT, ECs, the PS, LORs, and the interview all play a role. There are many folks with a 3.4 or better who have zero percent chance of getting in anyplace, because they are lacking or have issues in one or more of these other areas.

You can get in with a 3.28 with everything else being equal (good EC, volunteer work, recommendations) but schools pay attention to what you get in science classes, which I am guessing is lower then 3.28. You have to get the science GPA up, close to 3.5. Since you are a Bio major that should not be a problem because you will have many more science courses to go. Take some undergraduate independent research. If you do the work in these courses, you are almost guaranteed an A. By the way, do you attend BU?

C's are not totally unforgiveable. I had two C's on my record and I had three interviews, one of which I was accepted at (so far). Crossing my fingers for the waitlists. At any rate, I'm in the c/o 2010! 😀

oh yeah post-edit, both C's were in the science requirements... don't stress it too much 🙂

Also, note that taking the one math class probably isn't going to do too much to your GPA. The later it gets, the more inertia your GPA has and is harder to change.

You just had to say inertia, maybe you need a break from the mcat studying.

Hey, don't freak out about a few C's, I even had a D+ in freshman genetics and I still have an acceptance and 4 interviews. Be ready to explain what caused these mediocre grades and how you have learned from and overcome them, make sure there is an upward trend after them, and kick butt on your MCAT and you'll be golden. Getting C's isn't the end of the world, but not learning from them is.
