Hi,

I need some help writing my personal statement and I'll like to know if there's anyone in Berkeley, CA that has some kind of experience in the Medical school application process. I'd like someone to meet with me and give me some advice based on my personal experience on what to include and not include on the PS + I'd like to get some major editing help. I'm a foreign student and my writing skills are really poor (as you can tell).
Generous pay offered!

Please let me know if interested,

thanks!

Hi,

I currently am a student in Berkeley and am applying to medical school this year. I've already finished and submitted my PS along with my AMCAS, and I'd love to help you out. I worked in the past as both a writer/editor for Berkeley's student newspaper, and currently work as a reporter for TIME Magazine. I got a "T", or perfect score, on the writing portion of the MCAT. Email me at [email protected] anytime.

Just a word of advice: there's no problem seeking the help of a fellow premed to help edit the grammar of your essay. However, in terms of content you should seek the help of someone who is experienced in the medical school admissions process (a physician who has served on an adcom, a med student, professor etc). Premeds may have good intentions, but they don't necessarily know what constitutes a successful essay (content wise) until later in the game.

you can get some FREE help on SDN

search for the thread something along the lines of "SDNers willing to read personal statements"

it might be that one of the less important purposes of the statement is to evaluate an applicant's writing skills. So, I encourage you to get outside help, yet be aware that your writing skills may need to improve significantly during your professional career. Finding outside help will be good, but might not remediate your underlying need for help, viz. your writing ability.
