after many MANY calls to various do's in an attempt to shadow one i FINALLY got someone to say YES!!!!! *insert dance of joy here*
anyway i did not personally talk to him but rather the person at the office in charge of such things and never mentioned my age. he might be slightly suprised to see someone about 8 yrs younger than him walking in his office door to do a shadowing experience...lol (he graduated med school the yr i graduated from high school).
and as an added bonus he is an alum of ccom which is the only osteopathic school i am applying to.

and in other good news this week i passed the initial presentation process at kaplan and should be hearing from them this week to set up an interview there to begin teaching mcat prep next year. 🙂

i am having a good week......which feels good given the number of *bad* weeks i have had 🙂

Wooho!! Congrats!!! 😀

Is he a private practice doc???

yes he is which i think is part of the reason he is more willing to work with me than the other do's i called which were in with large managed medical groups that would not work with anyone who was not in med school but i need the lor to get into med school

Congrats...I'm afraid I might have to start over with trying to get to know a DO...the one I shadowed with won't call me back to talk about a LOR...after he said it would be no problem. This is VERY frustrating considering how hard I had to work just to get someone to shadow with.

Good luck!

That's a real bummer.

I guess I've been extremely fortunate with that one.

I asked my family and friends to ask their friends to look for a doctor to shadow. It came down to my friends, friends, girlfriends boss (she worked for a DO). Confusing huh?

Point is it's like anything else. Word of mouth works so much better than cold calling. Give it try, if you haven't already. I actually became good friends with the doctor. I call him doctor in the office and by his first name when we go out and have a beer. So a good LOR was pretty easy to obtain at that point.
