To transfer a file you'll need wifi connection for your computer and iphone. You can download for free 'files lite' or pay for 'airsharing' or 'files' from the app store on itunes.

You can store any ms office program (excel, word, powerpoint), as well as any file format that the iphone supports viewing (.pdf, .jpg, etc).

As an alternative, if you don't have too many files you can just email the files to your email acct and view them from your mailbox (its just slower to access).

Also documents to go will be releasing an app early next year to edit ms office documents on the iphone.
