If you've been accepted to NSU and are set on attending....

START YOUR HOUSING SEARCH NOW ....especially if you plan on living near campus!

Three of the major apartment complexes close to NSU are going condo next year. This means that the remaining complexes (Sunforest and Palm Trace Landings) are going to fill up FAST. Otherwise you're going to be living a few miles from campus.

If you can afford to buy a condo....DO IT! Some people in my class even take on a roommate in their condo who pays their mortage. And the value will most likely appreciate over the next few years and you will be able to sell it and make a nice profit...maybe even enough to pay off your med school loans!

Any questions...feel free to PM me.

Agreed--definatly good advice (that is if you need to hear it from two ppl who are currently in Fl).

I live a bit away from campus, and the drive isn't terrible. I like my car--so I enjoy that little bit of time to myself every day. One thing to note is that living in the complexes near campus is definately more expensive than a bit farther away (don't go too far--traffic is defintaly NOT good).

If you are going to live away from campus, get in contact with someone down here to get an idea of the commute before you jump off the deep end and have a 45 minute or 1 hour commute (there are ppl in our class like this).

Also, keep in mind that if you have not lived with anyone in 5 years and prefer to live alone--medical school may not be the time to decide to have a roomate if you can afford it at all otherwise. Some of us learned that the hard way.

Happy hunting!

The ones going condo this year are: Cedar Key (which used to be the most popular apartment complex for NSUCOM students...its literally across the street!), Davie Crossings, and The Gardens at Nova. You'll be able to purchase the condos directly from the complexes. There are several other condo complexes near campus which will certainly have some up for sale soon, but you would probably have to go through a realtor for those.

I personally live in an apartment at Palm Trace Landings, and highly recommend it to anyone. Its close to school (5 min. drive), has very nice amenities, and isn't as overpriced as some other places around here.

If you're moving to South Florida from the midwest like I did (or any smaller/rural community)....be prepared to spend a lot more $$$$$ on housing!!!!!!!!!!!

2 bedroom 2 bath with garage in Palm Trace Landings Phase III (opened in 2004) = $1475 / month.
