Is it realistic to expect to work in your hometown after you finish residency? Let's say that the city is in California but it isn't humongous like L.A., San Francisco, San Diego, etc..., but it isn't a small city that no one heard of either. I heard that it's always possible if you're willing to take a pay cut.

As long as the population can support an additional member of your specialty, there is not a problem.
