Let's say it's a 3 page essay.. not too long

Depends on the class. if its some Gen ed class then I would rather study for the test, but if its one of the upper level classes and If I dont have interest in the material, then I would choose the essay.

I'd rather study quantum mechanics and the 3 dimensional Schrodinger equation for the next modern physics test than write a 3 page paper about anything. I would also be infinitely more confident about my grade on the test than the grade on the paper. Tests all the way!

I'd rather write the essay. You have full control over what goes into the essay and how it is crafted. For a test, you are never 100% sure what the questions would be (unless you are cheating and got a copy of it beforehand 🙂)

But you don't have full control over what your grade will be.

I hate writting essays. I have to get friends to proof read it since I am not good in grammar. So I would rather study for any test then write a 3 page long essay! (which reminds me I should be working on my 10 pages research paper right now)

I prefer writing essays because there is a point where you are done. Once i've gotten it up/down to the appropriate length, edited it to the point where i'm happy with it, i can put it away and be done with it. When i have a major test thoguh, i always feel like i could study some more. I could pull a bunch of all nighters and just never stop studying. I've never really felt "done" studying, i just finish because it's time for the test. I hate that feeling.

I'd much rather write an essay. I can bs an A essay without studying; I probably won't do as well on a standard test without studying.

depends on which actually takes more work. I'm assuming a 3 page essay will take me 3-5 hours depending on what i have to look up/research. So if its a test that i can study less than the hours needed to write the paper, i'ld choose the test.
