Hello,
Would you recommend taking a dermatology or infectious disease elective if I'll be applying to family med. residencies?
I'm leaning towards dermatology bec. I guess I'll be exposed to ID during internal med.
What do you think?

Derm. My attending told me to take as many samples as I wanted.

Do both!! Thats what I am doing. I did derm in 3rd year and will do ID now in 4th year.

If you get a chance, do both. I did an ID rotation, and I definitely think it helped me because it helped me become more comfortable with antibiotics and which antibiotics to choose for certain infections (although it seems like ID docs D/C more antibiotics than they start!) I didn't get a chance to do derm, and I wish I would have. You will probably get to do a lot of suturing for small office procedures which FP's also do (mole removal, biopsies, etc.) which will be really helpful. (Although you get a lot of suturing during your ER rotation, as well.)
