I'm wondering if you get to use a pencil on the writing sample or if it has to be done in pen. The AAMC packet said to bring pens on test day. Hope I can use a pencil because I always do a lot of erasing.

Yes... write in pencil so everyone else can do better... The writing sample has to be in pen AND make sure it is a BLACK pen. They won't grade your essays if they are not in black ink. Just cross out whatever you want erased. It's not supposed to look perfect.

I went to Office Depot today and bought some erasable pen. It was about $2-3 for packet of 5. I got home and tested how well it works, and it seems pretty good.

Careful with those. I've had those die on me without any warning.

But like ChymeChancellor said, just cross things out. They're not expecting a perfect looking essay. It's more about the content.

5 new pens should last 3-4 pages of writing. I'll take couple of regular pens, just in case. I'm also taking 3 pencils and 2 mechanical pencils fully loaded with lead, and eraser. It wouldn't hurt to prepare too much. 😀

That sounds like the equivalent of my local Office Max. 😉
