I have some W's on my transcript:
three in one semester where I had to drop the entire semester
and one in another semester where I was over booked

Are these really as bad as rumored???
From what I hear, I can just offer any good explanation and all will be honky dory...

as long as you haven't screwed up somewhere else, you should be ok.

Not that bad as long as you don't have them consistently or a ridiculous amount.

I think it only becomes a problem if there's a pattern of dropping hard courses, something that would indicate that the person couldn't consistently handle a decent courseload. As long as it isn't a trend, it probably won't come up. If it does, just explain what happened.

Some anecdotal evidence (take it however you want): At one school I interviewed, the dean interviewed each applicant specifically about their academic record. Neither of my drops came up then or at any other interview.

I had one on my transcript and not one interviewer mentioned it. No need to worry unless you make a habbit of it.
