Apparently a bachelors degree is not required for admission into the program. Even one of my colleagues has explained to me he's only taking the required courses/total hours with the MCAT. His other stats are average but I mean come on... I have a huge advantage over an applicant like this by investing the time into an undergrad, right?

Plus, why not get an undergrad... I want a good backbone to carry with me to med school.

Clinical experience isn't "required" but good luck getting in without it. Similar idea holds true here.

Get the degree. If you don't, you'd better have a damn good reason for not doing so, because otherwise: "You want to finish med school but won't even stick it out for undergrad?" That wouldn't be so great.

And then there's the "If you don't get in..." angle to consider. Your friend is being short-sighted.
