Hey Jessica I'm curious as to what you feel has made you a very successful applicant thus far. Lots of SDNers have been successful, but I've noticed you've got some pretty impressive interviews, including Harvard. Great job!

Thanks jmejia1. There are a lot of impressive applicants on SDN... with a LOT of impressive acceptances (which thus far, I am lacking. I must admit my green eyed monster goes into a little bit of overdrive whenever I see the "accepted" thread pop up at the top of the Pre-Allopathic page. I am not a jealous freak or anything, congrats to EVERYONE who has acceptances, I am just hoping to join your ranks soon! 😛 ) I don't think I have anything special going on... I have just been lucky as far as interviews go. I was in nursing school before (to get a Bachelor's in Nursing, but then I decided medicine was more "up my alley")... so I do have ~3 yrs. of clinical experience, but otherwise I am just the typical applicant with the usual, "boring" ECs (minus research experience.)

I loved Yale. I hope they accept me. The afternoon session usually ends around 4 or 5 I think. I did the morning session and I ended at around 2:30. I think the afternoon people get the financial aid talk and lunch first and then their interviews, whereas the morning get the interviews and then the financial aid talk and lunch.

Good luck...you'll love it!

Do you get to pick which section?

Can you describe the interview? How many interviewers, was it relaxed? How was it compared to other schools?

Yale was great. I did the morning section and was done at around 2:00 or so. After the interview there all I could think about was going to Yale. I was in love with the place until Penn stole my interest.

Premed - I got to pick my section, but I think tha availability depends on what day you pick and how full each section is. From what I have read on interview feedback, there are 2 interviews and they are very "laid back"

I had a morning session interview--it started early (I think at about 8). The director of admissions gives you your interview folder, then walks you through how much money Yale puts into the school, gives you a really nice, award-winning brochure. Then, in order of when your interviews start, you meet with Grace who gives you exact directions to each of your two interview locations.

If you have some time before your first interview, you watch a video about Yale and chat with Mr. Silverman (Dir of Admissions). Then you have your two interviews. They may both be on campus or not--I had one at the VA in West Haven (the shuttle stops outside the med school) and one on campus (I was late for this one, but Grace calls in advance to warn your interviewers if you will be late). The interviews are amazing--the best of Yale, to me, was the faculty definitely. They are conversational, but interesting. One of my interviewers asked me lots of hypothetical questions in order to get me to shed my "applicant" behavior. We ended up having an amazing conversation.

After the interviews, you meet up with the morning and afternoon sessioners and go to lunch with some students. After lunch is the tour. After the tour, if you are a morning sessioner, you can go home.

Yes, when you receive your interview invitation, you can specify whether you want a morning or afternoon session interview. Grace is very accomodating.

Good luck!
