The Dean of the Yale Medical School said that Yale is having a plan to increase research funding from NIH. He anticipates an increase of about $250 when the new center opens (a $1.5 billion facility). In addition, over the next 5 ears, Yale plans to expand and build three new hospitals in the state. Those new hospitals will be research hospitals and are expected to bring in an additional $300 m. So he says that in 8 years, Yale will be on top. and in 3-4 years, it will be 2nd. in research funding..

Whatever was once up most come down and Harvard will be no exception. I wouldn't be surprised if even UCSF bumps Harvard off the top spot in five-six years.

Just so you guys know -- I saw on the residency forum that Yale's Surgery program is gonna be stripped and that PGYs 1,2 & 3 now have to complete their training elsewhere -- that doesn't sound too good.
