Is anyone else having problems filling in the unscreened Yale secondary? I keep keeping a duplicated SSN/AAMC ID error msg and its been that way all week. 😕

i havent had any errors yet...

yale's secondary is available NOW and u can sbmit regardless if they have receivd your amcas.

secondaries are the "second" applications each schools requires u to fill out, some are involved with several essays, others just want another app fee.

Hi,

Do only qualified applicants get invited to fill out secondaries, or does everyone who has submitted an application fill out the secondaries?

Depends on the school. Yale does not screen at the secondary level and you can submit it even if they don't have your amcas yet.

Mine's ok so far - I'd give them a call if you're really stuck. They seem pretty decent and nice.

Yeah. I had a question about listing recomendations and they replied by 10 AM the next morning, very nice people (Hope I get to meet some of them in person 😉 ) Anyhow, just a quick question, what are people putting down in the section on writing something that wasn't mentioned elsewhere in the application. I feel weird about leaving it blank, but I don't think I can write anything there which isn't just a rehash of something mentioned either in the Yale supplimental or the AMCAS. Any thought of some topic to maybe expound upon in that section?

Hmm...sucks for me. Seems I have a duplicate AAMC ID issued problem. Well, guess I'll have to call them monday to see whats up. Sigh, and I was looking forward to filling out more essays about what I had just written on my AMCAS app...🙄

Well, no luck with leaving it blank. It still will not let me continue to the next field. Stoopid p.o.s. +pissed+

Finally managed to figure out what was wrong with the blasted thing. So if anyone runs into a login problem, use your AMCAS ID and password, dont create a new ID

Not to cause panic among this years applicants, but I wrote a page long essay for that section and got into Yale this year. I wrote mine on what I envisioned as changes in the future of emergency medicine and what I was specifically interested in accomplishing in the field. In many ways I used the "what do you see yourself doing in 10 years/in the future and how can X school help you accomplish that" this will be asked in many secondaries/interviews so it is worth coming up with a solid answer.
That being said, I am sure that there are people at and going to the YSM who left that section blank. Just think of it as an extra section to let them get to know who you are and what you're interested in. The YSM admissions are really nice people so don't hesitate to ask them questions. good luck to everyone. cheers.

Did you guys notice that they ask that each section be limited to 500 characters!? We're talking less than a 100 words here . . . or a paragraph.

Aw wait, that seems to be for the additional information paragraph only, not the supplemental essay.

I filled that space in with the "What are the essential factors of an ideal physician" secondary essay from another school. (i.e. the "what kind of doctor do you want to be" essay.... kinda like the "where do you see yourself in ten years" essay). I'm still hanging out on Yale's waitlist, but I don't think this is the essay that will make or break your application.

If you've already recieved some other secondaries, you can kill two birds with one stone by reusing a topic that's required for another school.

Just put whatever you like to put. I didn't put any essay per se, but I explained about my english proficiency and financial support (Both important b/c I'm a foreign applicant, hence have to pay full tuition myself, and English is my second language)

If you feel that adcom may have doubts on certain part of your application, you may want to straight out address that.

What essay are you guys talking about? The essay that asks:

Please use this space to write an essay in which you discuss your interest in the Yale University School of Medicine. Please limit your response to 500 words ?

No, the one that allows you to put in any optional information. Although it says 500 Words limit, but apparently it's fine if you put in more than that for this particular question.

For the supplemental document, I wrote in what I've been doing since I graduated college (graduated in 1999). The info is in amcas but scattered in the post-sec experience, I thought a chronological essay would help. I've included this in almost every application and most of the schools requested it if you were out of school this year.
