Have any of you taken a year off during your undergrad career? For me it was a benefit, as my grades went drastically up after my time away. I guess the "real world" didn't seem as attractive as school did. Also, if any of you fit this profile, do you have any experience with how med schools treat grade trends? I went from approx. 2.7 during my first two years, to a 3.3 for my last two years. I went to a very competitive (grade-deflating) school, and I ended up graduating Cum Laude. I just applied for the 2005 year, but did a year as a post-bac getting a second degree. My post-bac GPA is 3.97 (only blemish is an A-). So, overall my cum. GPA is 3.23 and science is a 3.16, but both were rescued from the depths of insignificance after my first two years. I am 27, and worked a few years before post-bac. How do you think it looks since my grades have continually gone up, plus my MCAT (33R) covers for the bad grades in my early pre-req classes? 😕
