What kind of activities have you guys/gals done? International, domestic, AIDS, Cancer, etc...? We all know that orgininality is the key!

Personally, to date I don't have any significantly unique experiences, just the usual hospital and community work. I am looking forward to the summer because I will have 4 months to volunteer and/or work. I'll most likely go overseas and hopefully it will be an experience that will enable me to "grow-up" and have something to talk about during my interviews.

👍

my big experience was writing a book. Its coming out april 8th, and its a collection of short stories. writing it was a two year event and it changed me so much. I feel like i've given birth to a kid. i'm a completely different person.

well, the Nobel peace prize was a nice conversation piece in my interviews.......

j/k. I dunno, nothing was *that* special or anything. I guess the fact that I was one of the three senior members of a research lab of ~12-15 students stands for something. I was the project manager, which entailed calling the shots for the way a lot of other experiments were run. My other ECs were clinical/shadowing/student organization/generic volunteering kind of stuff.

I once killed a bear with my bare hands - and then brought it back to life, so its cubs would have a mommy. We remain in contact to this day.

porn producer, Jenna and I have become really good friends as time has gone on. She likes me despite my shortcomings. 😳

One of my favorite extra-curriculars I did in high school. We had a program called Best Buddies, in which mentally challenged students were paired with kids who went to my high school. The whole point of the program was to assimilate these kids into a "normal" high school situation, so we would eat lunch and hang out, go the movies with our buddies etc. It was a lot of fun and definitely rewarding. I learned so much from those kids about appreciating little things, and realizing how I take for granted so many things that come naturally to most people, but are very taxing for someone who is mentally/physically challenged. Its so nice to catch up with them now and see how they are doing.

I spent a good portion of grad school trying to see if I could put a whole pack of Dentyne Fire cinnamon gum in my mouth at once. Never happened.

At birth, Chuck Norris came out feet first so he could roundhouse kick the doctor in the face. Nobody delivers Chuck Norris but Chuck Norris

I ran with the bulls in pamplona. I wish I had the balls to put that on my amcas...ironic, eh?

I'm trying to think about interesting extras that make you stand out. I remember someone said they were a national scrabble champion and it went over well in a humerous kind of way. I'm thinking international domino-stacking champion has a nice ring to it.

I climbed mount everest and was the first premed to the moon...

Yeah, actually we did....but not literally shocking, but just something so glaring that I can't believe others have missed it. 😀

Oh, I was just making a pun. But that's cool. Lightning is fun.

I knew you were being sarcastic, but yeah, it's lots of fun....sadly the "fun" part is not what I'm looking into (statistical analysis)

i kidnapped the lindbergh baby.

I was a former nightclub DJ and DJ'ed like crazy back in college in tha Bay. I still do it to this day, albeit much less since graduate school (and med school once I start in Aug) doesnt allow a great deal of time for it. It came up in the interviews and I got super excited.

My parents always used to ask why I wasted my time with that... well HA!

Helped to develop virtual medical training systems for US Army Medics/Combat Life Savers.

Also a Rescue Scuba Diver. Got to do rescues out in Northern Coast of CA, where all the Great Whites feed...good times!

These days I still do the Army stuff. But also doing clinical research (5 years and going!), and competitively swimming with the local swim team.

Formed and was lead singer for a riot grrl band, did PR for the student dining hall workers when we were trying to uninionize, formed a chapter of te MOB and held a rally etc. (mothers opposing bush), had 2 kids (one with two rare diseases!) , blah blah blah it's all political stuff plus the usual medical volunteering, shadowing, lame chemistry research (studying flurine, god, is that even how you spell it? it's been a long time) and I was published but it was history research (globalization in rural america yadda yadda yadda). My son's teething so I don't know of any of this makes sense. You don't sleep when he teeths...............
