I thought it might be fun to do this. I mean, I love superlatives!

What disorders do people think are the most interesting?

My top three:
1. schizophrenia
2. dysthymia
3. bipolar disorder

Please share! :D

Munchausen by Proxy is SO fascinating. I got really interested in that recently and read a book called "Sickened." Have you read it?

I'd pick Munchausen by Proxy, too. I'd also probably pick Dissociative Fugue as a top three. Let's see... What else... Does Asperger's count??

1. No diagnosis or condition on Axis I
2. No diagnosis on Axis II
3. Diagnosis deferred on Axis I/Axis II

1. Antisocial personality disorder
2. Borderline personality disorder
3. Narcissistic personality disorder

1. Schizophrenia
2. PTSD
3. OCPD

Eating disorders and BPD are also interesting but I shudder at the memory of treating those clients... Can't bring myself to put those two on the list.

I'm not sure if I'd want to work with all of these populations, but to me they are the most interesting.

1. anything axis II. I know this is a category, but I am fascinated by anything axis II.
2. Autism Spectrum Disorder
3. Munchausen- never worked with someone diagnosed with this but it was one of my favorite disorders to learn about.

  • Schizophrenia (specifically the symptom of delusion and, more sepcifically, Capgras and Cotard delusion)
  • Pretty much anything Axis II
  • Depression (specifically the psychotic type)

1. Aspergers Disorder (adults)
2. Major Depressive Disorder with Psychotic Features
3. Narcissistic PD (although they are extremely difficul to see in individual therapy, when engaged in group therapy the dynamic is really interesting)

these are tough to rank for me but: OCD, Bipolar, Schizophrenia are my most fascinating.

Closely followed by Social anxiety disorder.

Munchausen by Proxy was how I became interested in psychology. Although my interests are now different, I still remember fondly reading a fiction book that centered on this disorder in high school. Just sad I don't remember the name!!

 AGREED!

But if I HAD to choose three disorders:
1) Conduct Disorder
2) Antisocial Personality Disorder
3) Schizoaffective Disorder

1) Schizophrenia

2) Borderline personality disorder

3) Narcissistic personality disorder/antisocial personality disorder

Seems awfully glib to be picking "favorite" disorders while they are causing the afflicted with meaningful suffering...

Just kidding! For me:

1)BDD
2)Gender Identity Disorder
3)BPD

Yeahhh I know, I obviously don't wish to be insensitive. I just wanted a catchy title for the thread :) And I would be surprised if a single person doesn't know which disorder most interests him/her. If all the disorders in the world could be eradicated right now, I would wish for that...wait a minute though...
