Hi all, bit of a conundrum here and I'm really unfamiliar with student loans so I'm lost.

I already have a degree and was admitted to my state school (University of Colorado at Denver) as an undergrad transfer, since my first degree was from a Canadian school. I start taking all of my prerequisites mid January. I am classified as "pre-medical".

I was working full time when I applied for FAFSA. They only gave me about $5000 in aid, which is just enough to cover tuition. I won't be working full time anymore while I attend, so my husband and I are looking into a private loan to cover the gap. Basically we need about $1000 a month, probably just for this next 12 months, and we'll be alright after that until when/if I get admitted to Med and pick up Stafford loans there again. The $1000 will cover the bills that my husband's income doesn't

We've cut back as much as we can (got rid of cable TV, consolidated as much debt as we could) but without that $1000 we can't pay the bills.

I'll be reapplying for FAFSA with no income on January first but of course that won't kick in until the fall, and I'm not sure I'll get that much more out of them?

Will private loans do anything for me? Or do I not even qualify because I'm second degree/already have some Federal aid/any other reason?

Thanks for the help!
