Happened every year in residency. A first year would go running to the surgical chief saying something like I was doing a dfe, decided to practice scleral depression and the eyeball popped out and the patient was screaming. Senior resident would walk in and say do you have thyroid problems, patient says yes, look in the emr and see they have proptosis, put a drop of proparicaine, gently apply pressure to eye and it's back in. It would always be the joke among the seniors who would be the first year to freak out running to them saying the eye just popped out.
