Hello All,

I've got an interview on March 9 in Glendale. I've been over the interview feedback section and noticed a lot of negative feedback about the whole interview process there.

I would like to hear from some current AZPod students on how their interviews went and any particular advice they might have.

Also, what do you wear? I've been a consultant for the past 5 years (going for the career change!) and have always worn a suit. I wonder if that is a bit over the top for this or not.

Anyone else interviewing on that date also?

I'm a first year student at AZPod. When I interviewed last year, I had a pretty positive experience, and things have changed a bit for the better since then, IMO. You should get the chance to meet several students during the day and hopefully get all of your questions answered that way. When I interviewed it was a little more hit and miss as to whether or not you ran into some current students, but that has been changed. The interviews are pretty laid back, the interviewers are basic science faculty and podiatry faculty, and they just have your personal statement I think. If you get an interview, then your grades were probably acceptable, and they are seeing if you are a good fit for the school and if the school is a good fit for you. A suit is definately a good choice. Oh, and I think that you are Canadian, if I can read your avatar right. There is atleast one in our class and the one above us, so you won't feel left out, I hope! Good Luck:luck:

I interviewed in jan. and enjoyed my interview experience. Honestly, I never thought I would even think about going to Azpod, I just looked forward to the mountain biking in January. But they won me over, compared to Scholl. Azpod felt more personal, and I fit in better with their teaching methods.

My interview was anything but laid back, (not to scare you). Turns out if you mention your religious they will drill you for 30 min with crazy questions. But it wasn't done in a vindictive manor. You will fit in if you wear a suit.

I don't have much any advice, but they did ask one WEIRD random question. "if you lived in a isolated community what 5 types of individuals would you surround yourself with?" I think the interviewers were just bored.

I heard that rumor, but I don't have any clue. I myself am far from mormon. If I was a mormon I wouldn't have gotten a cozy feeling from the school though.

Thanks ldsrmdude and goalie712.

Goalie712, I'm curious as to what type of questions they drilled you on about being religious? Did they look upon it negatively, or did they just want to know your beliefs in areas that relate to medicine? Since you interviewed in January, have they offered you any type of acceptance, and if so, how long did it take?

Ldsrmdude, how long after your interview did they offer you an acceptance?

Thanks.

It depends on when your interview is in relation to when the admissions group meets. They usually meet once a week, I think, and review all of the interviewees since their last meeting. Then they choose to either accept, deny, put on the waitlist, or hold off on deciding if you don't have all of your application materials in yet (MCAT scores, LOR's, etc.). At your interview the Program Director, Dr. Page, will probably give you a timeline, but I would say if you haven't heard within a week, give the admissions dept. a call and make sure that they aren't missing anything. They might even just tell you if you call (that's how I found out) before you get the "official" acceptance.

First off my interview questions were all related to podiatry, and how I fit into the scheme. The first 15 minutes went fine. Not trying to brag, but I am a people person and I feel I interview quite well, my grades are another issue ha. Then came the random questions.

I mentioned the mission trips that I had gone on, and they asked me what I would consider the perfect team for a mission trip. I mentioned I would bring along a spiritual adviser, among others. They then asked me how I planned to use my beliefs while relating to patients, they were curious how i would use my authoritative position to influence patients. They also asked what I thought about christian soup kitchens that wouldn't give food to people unless they went to church first.

I didn't hesitate to answer these questions boldly, in generally saying that I have befitted greatly from my beliefs and fully believe that it would be selfish for me to keep it to myself. Yet, a belief cannot be forced upon someone and that I don't agree with some radical evangelistic methods. It was about 20 minutes of additional questions and answers but you get the Idea.

I felt some negativity towards religion, but I have no problem being drilled with tough questions about faith. In all actuality I have asked myself much tougher questions then they even came close too. I was happy that they seemed to care about more than just a students grades, like other schools.

I was received my acceptance notification two weeks later, via their website. Their deposit is 1000 dollars, which I paid last night.

goalie712,
Congratulations on your acceptance! If there is any negativity towards religion, it is definately isolated and not widespread. There are several religious groups on campus that meet weekly, and I haven't noticed any negativity towards any of them. Once again, congrats!
