The American College of Physicians no longer supports Internal Medicine as a specialty (or so says this guy): http://doctorrw.blogspot.com/2007/02/american-college-of-physicians-no.html

I suppose if the public expects you to act like a family physician, it only makes sense to train as one. ;)

Wow. Those things are part of our basic bread-and-butter training. I didn't realize that it was so frustratingly foreign to them.
 
so, the people who don't go on to fellowships will have a hard time.

I think this is a case of finally calling a spade... a spade.

There is nothing that IM covers that there is not a specialty for (Intensive Care, Pulmonology, Cardiology... etc etc etc) so how can you call them a specialty.
