I am currently attending another CSU and I was wondering if anyone has successfully been accepted through the linkage program. I'm in the second semester of my sophomore year and am planning to transfer to Fullerton for the linkage. I currently have a 3.62 cGPA. Should I work on transferring or just stay and apply next cycle? Thanks!

Couple of my close friends were in the linkage and will be attending Western next Fall. Too bad I didn't know about the program until I was a senior.

It's a great privilege. Take advantage of it. Don't wait too long.

I have been. Will be at Western this fall.

Would you mind touching on the competitiveness of getting accepted? Maybe sharing your stats and EC's? I am looking at doing my Post Bacc there and would love to attend Western.

I am not sure if my stats will help much since other people have been accepted with different stats.

GPA:
3.53 Undergrad (All non-science)
4.00 Postbacc (Includes all of the sciences prerequisites and Calc 1 - note I was accepted with only 1st semester chem and bio completed so they probably based their decision solely on undergrad gpa)

MCAT:
Will find out in a week (You will be accepted and an MCAT score cutoff will be assigned to you that you would have to meet)

Volunteering:
2yrs at Mary's Kitchen about 2 years ago
Currently with Kaiser hospice.

Research:
Non (Only economics research for my thesis that I did as a senior undergrad which was required for graduation). Transcript said research project, did not explain what and they did not ask about it.

As a postbacc student, you apply after your 1st semester is done, interview at Western and then cross your fingers and toes. As an undergrad, I think you apply your 2nd year or 3rd year. I also know of one who applied his 4th year and was accepted.

Five of us were interviewed from my school on that day. Three were accepted and two were not. One (very smart guy IMHO) will reapply since he was given the opportunity to work closely with western U students and faculty. However, I think when I applied was the first time up to 5 people applied for the 5 slots available.

As far as I know, you will be interviewing with fewer people and quite possibly alone (someone I know is doing that now). This reduces your chances of looking bad compared to others by a lot plus, gives them an opportunity to fill a sit early. In addition, the MCAT score required of you may be less than the school average. Go figure.

I know a senior who applied and got in.

Thanks for the info. Are the post bacc students competing against the undergrad students for acceptance? Or do they normally accept a certain number of the post bacc students, regardless of how many undergrads apply and/or are qualified for acceptance.

I interviewed with undergrads. Last year I only know of a postbacc interviewing.

I do too, but the person I know has a little higher GPA than mind, a unique story, and most importantly a URM status.

When I attempted to apply, I had a cGPA of 3.33, which barely makes the cutoff requirement.

In a hindsight, I would have inquired about the program as early as in the beginning of my Junior year. That way, I would have maintained a solid connection with the head of the committee and ensured that I met all requirements by the time I needed to apply. Oh well, it's not the end of the world now, but having this extra help would have been great.
