It would help to describe the type of lab you are going into. For most labs it would help if you knew your general chemistry and how to make general solutions. For others you might never even make a solution. The more you know about your research topic and the lab you are going into before hand the better, you probably won't understand most of what's going on at first but that's okay, you'll learn over time.
