Hi,
I got an email today concerning NYU's second look weekend. I was surprised becuase I thought I read on this site that they do not have a second look weekend. Also, it's really early, the first weekend in March.
Is it common to go to second look weekends even though your not sure that you will go there? I went to an accepted student luncheon at another school in early January and I thought it was wierd that they measured us for White Coats even though half the students their will probably go to another school and are just holding on to their early acceptances until they hear from other non-rolling schools. And I'm sure they were motivated by the free food.
Also, anyone else accepted plan on going to NYU second look?

I'd love to go but I haven't heard anything about it or received the email. Since I live in nyc, I'd like to go just for a day.

I'm sorry, I looked in the fine print and I'm assuming that it is actually offered by the office of minority affairs. It didn't say anything about it in the email, only at the very bottom of the page where the signatures are. So I only saw it when I looked at it again. If your still interested though I copied the email below. And sorry to anyone else who read this thread hoping their was a NYU second look weekend. Also good luck to anyone else who is applying to NYU and I hope you guys find out positive decisions soon.

NYU 2004 Second Look Weekend

Congratulations on your acceptance to New York University School of Medicine
(NYUSoM)!

You are cordially invited to take part in the Second Look Weekend at NYU.
Second Look Weekend will provide you with additional interaction with NYU
students and your fellow accepted applicants. You will have an opportunity
to be better informed of all the wonderful opportunities you will enjoy as
an NYU School of Medicine student.

By participating in this weekend, you will gain a formal and informal
experience as to what occurs on a day to day basis at the NYU School of
Medicine. There will be a chance for you to ask questions of our faculty,
administrators, and students at the Student Panel, Financial Aid Workshop
and other presentations. We will answer every question that you could
possibly have; in some cases, even before you ask it!

Second Look Weekend?s formal events will begin on Friday, March 5th at 10am
and will end on Sunday, March 7th by 1pm. Early arrival will be Thursday,
March 4th. Very shortly you will be receiving, by e-mail and snail mail,
the formal schedule and events in more detail. These materials will also
include information about accommodations and an explanation regarding the
reimbursement process for your travel expenses. (NYU will be reimbursing
your travel and covering your lodging.) In the mean time, please go ahead
and make any necessary airline reservations. Just remember to hold on to
your receipts.

We are all looking forward to an informative and fun-filled weekend. See you
soon! Please e-mail [email protected] with any questions or concerns,
or you may continue to correspond directly with those current students who
may have already been in touch with you.

Sincerely,
Mariano Rey , M.D.
Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs

Machelle Allen, M.D.
Interim Director, Office of Minority Affairs

Why wouldn't the school offer this opportunity to ALL accepted students?

Thanks Marimed! Are you going?

I'll most likely go. I don't have exams that week and I would like to know more about the school. I didn't really know anything when I applied (I basically based the schools that I applied to on location alone-I'm an hour away from both NYC and Philly), but I was pleasantly surprised at the interview: everyone was nice, the students didn't seemed stressed out, the administration was helpful and the school of medicine looks real nice too. However, I?m still not 100% sure that I?ll go to NYU. I?m still anxiously waiting to hear from Columbia (although even a positive decision from them won?t knock out NYU because I think their both great schools; with both positives and negatives) and I?m not sure whether I want to go to private school or my local state school. So just like many other people their still a lot of hard decisions to make.
