Here's a few dental schools that offer joint DDS or DMD and MBA degrees. If there are other programs which offer similar focuses or high concentrations in business and management, list as much information as possible here.

If there are any business, finance or management programs which cater especially to the needs of dentistry, well let's hear about them too!! :D

1) Columbia University DDS / MBA Program

Columbia DDS / MBA Website

Qualified students who wish to pursue a business degree along with their dental certification may apply to the five-year DDS/MBA dual degree program. Individuals pursing this course of study receive thorough foundations in the basic biological sciences and clinical dentistry, and gain invaluable insights into the financial considerations and managerial aspects of health care organizations preparing them to assume leadership roles at the forefront of the health care industry.

To be admitted, students must apply and gain acceptance to both the School of Dental and Oral Surgery and the Graduate School of Business, which sets admission standards for the MBA component of the program (application forms for the SDOS component of the program is downloadable from this site). Admission to the business school may take place between the beginning of the first year and the completion of the third year at SDOS. DDS/MBA candidates must interrupt their dental school studies for three terms to complete the required business curriculum, which includes fifteen business courses and 45 overall credit points.

There is a tremendous need for this type of dual expertise in the dental profession: Delivery of dental care services is becoming an increasingly complex proposition. In this type of climate, the field of dentistry will be best served by individuals who are not only professionally trained managers, but who also understand the basic conditions for ethical and responsible dental health care. Graduates of the DDS/MBA program can therefore expect to remain in professional demand for the foreseeable future.

2) Temple University DMD / MBA Program

Temple DMD / MBA Program Website

The School of Dentistry and the School of Business and Management at Temple University offer a program leading to the dual degrees of Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Master of Business Administration (MBA). This dual degree program is designed to allow the academically excellent student to earn two advanced degrees in five years. If you complete the DMD/MBA program at Temple University, you will be a highly qualified graduate with a broad range of marketable skills and increased career options in dentistry, business and public service.

Benefits of the Program

1. More skills, broader vision, and the ability to operate in a more challenging and competitive environment.

2. Increased capabilities for career advancement and more career options

3. A competitive edge in business and expanded earning power for those practicing dentistry

4. The management and business skills for administrative positions in insurance companies, hospitals, HMOs, and other organizations

5. The skills to better manage personal finances

6. An advanced education track for academically outstanding students at the School of Dentistry

7. Six years of graduate education integrated into a four / five year (full time) program

The first two semesters of study in the DMD/MBA program will be spent in the School of Dentistry, where you will complete all required DMD courses. You may begin to take courses in the School of Business and Management after completion of the first year of dental school if you so choose.

In the third year of the program, you will complete all lecture courses and a portion of the clinical requirements in the School of Dentistry, plus a minimum of nine credit hours in the School of Business and Management. Summer sessions may be used to help meet these requirements.

In the fourth and fifth years of the joint degree program, you will complete those courses from each school, which fulfill the graduation requirements for each degree. You will choose the sequence of these courses working with the respective faculty advisers in the Schools of Dentistry and Business and Management.

The graduation requirements for both degrees should be attainable in four - five years by a full-time student. This goal is facilitated by the granting of transfer credit for certain designated courses between the School of Dentistry and the School of Business and Management. Courses accepted for transfer credit will replace elective and selective courses required for the MBA and DMD degrees. In addition, up to 24 semester hours credit of 400-level courses at the School of Business and Management may be waived or tested for exemption if you have taken previous courses at an accredited business school.

Upon successful completion of the degree requirements of each school, you will receive both the DMD and MBA degrees.

To apply to the DMD/MBA program you must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.8 in your undergraduate work and you must meet the admissions requirements of both schools. You must apply separately to the School of Dentistry and the School of Business and Management, indicating in a letter your desire to enter the dual degree DMD/MBA program.

The tuition for the DMD/MBA program will be charged by the School of Dentistry. When you are enrolled in both the School of Dentistry and the School of Business and Management you will pay only dental school tuition. If you require longer to complete the MBA than the DMD program, the remaining MBA courses will be charged at business school tuition rates. Students pursuing the dual DMD/MBA degree program are eligible for financial assistance from the School of Dentistry according to the school's financial aid guidelines. When you enroll in the joint degree program you will have a faculty adviser to assist you with administrative and curriculum choices and problems related to participation in the program

7) University of Pennsylvania DMD / MBA Program

UPenn DMD / MBA Website

D.M.D. Dual-Degree Options
The close association between the Penn Dental Medicine and other professional schools, departments, and divisions of the University affords unique opportunities for exceptional students able to meet the rigorous application standards of both the Penn Dental Medicine and a second program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Students who wish to pursue a dual-degree program must gain approval from the Office of Academic Affairs before submitting an application for the companion program. Students should be aware that there is no guaranteed acceptance into a companion program. In addition, each program sets its own admission standards and acceptance into the DMD program does not constitute automatic approval for a companion program.

Applying for Dual- and Joint-Degree Programs:

All applicants to dual- and joint-degree programs must apply to both Wharton and the second school or program. This means that the appropriate standardized tests, such as the LSAT, GRE, or MCAT, a completed application form, transcript, and recommendations must be sent to the partner school.
Admission decisions are made independently by each school, and students may pursue a dual-degree program only if admitted to both. Unless otherwise indicated, students may apply to both programs simultaneously. If a student is already enrolled in a program, he or she may apply to Wharton in the fall semester following commencement of study in the co-sponsoring school. If it is a 3-year program, the student may apply in the fall of his or her second year. Students in the MD, DMD, and VMD programs may apply to enter Wharton in any August, up to and including the August following the third year of enrollment in the medical program.

To satisfy the MBA portion of the dual-degree program, students must take at least 15 courses at Wharton. (Courses taken at Wharton prior to admission may not be applied toward the degree requirements of the MBA program.)

I heard somewhere that Harvard is going to be offering a joint DMD/MBA program sometime in the future.

Can anybody confirm or deny this and offer a starting date if this is indeed going to happen in the future?

Thanks.

This thread should become a sticky, very useful information!

Burton, good info. I know that if you have business related courses from undergrad, Temple will count them towards the MBA, Im pretty sure Penn/Wharton does not necessarily do the same. UMDNJ also offers the joint program with Rutgers School of Management.
Also, Penn, Columbia and Kellogg offer executive MBA programs for people with DDS/DMD degrees.
I think we need to put up info on the difference between the MBA and executive MBA programs
