I'm having such a hard time deciding. COA is basically the same, so just looking for some input. Specialties of interest include orthopedic surgery, general surgery, and radiology, but definitely subject to change.

Creighton (Phoenix)

Pros
  • Brand new campus and buildings (amazing anatomy lab)
  • Non-mandatory recorded lectures
  • Great local hospitals for rotations
  • Good curriculum timeline and elective clerkships
  • Good match list when considering rank
  • Great food and outdoor recreation
  • Grading is P/F/H and no internal rankings
  • 100 students in the class which I feel is perfect
  • Large majority of the class is my age
  • Students and faculty I met seemed happier than anywhere else
  • Relatively close to home
Cons
  • Being the first first years in Phoenix seems like they might not have everything in check
  • Lots of mandatory in-person group sessions
  • No established organizations or connections for intramural sports and stuff
  • Very few home specialties in Phoenix
  • Research opportunities aren’t really provided by the school it seems, we’re basically on our own to start asking around
  • Above average cost of living
  • Relatively low ranking

Indiana (West Lafayette Campus)

Pros
  • Good research opportunities and summer programs
  • Non-mandatory recorded lectures
  • Relatively cheap cost of living
  • Lots of home programs
  • Good match list
  • Good rank with both PD and US World News
  • On the Purdue campus which has lots of benefits
  • Can choose to do Indy rotations and research
Cons
  • OOS tuition, but not any more expensive than Creighton
  • Older facilities, but still functional
  • Kind of in the middle of nowhere and hard to get to
  • Very small class size of like 20-30 I think

Based on your pros for Phoenix, it’s seems like there’s some “culture” (can’t find the right word for it) that draw you to it more. For example, the buildings behind newer, the age of your classmates, great food, family proximity. These things would make your experience for the 4 years more enjoyable.

On the other hand, the pros you listed for IU (which is my top choice and I’m on the WL for - so a little bias) are more about how it’ll make your CV better. Higher ranking, well established IMPRS research program, good residency matches within the Midwest and beyond. Being at a regional campus with a small class size could be good and bad. Bad bc maybe you interact with less ppl, but good bc you are more close knit. Also for your speciality interest, being aT a regional campus allows you to be more hands on during the surgeries whereas at Indy your competing to get the attendee attention. If you want a larger environment you can eventually transfer to Indy after 2 years.
