In March 2025, the House Judiciary Committee announced an investigation into the “Match monopoly.” In March 2026, they released the interim report of their investigation, which concluded that - thanks to its antitrust exemption - the Match operates like an illegal monopoly, suppressing resident physician wages, enabling poor working conditions, and even contributing to the ‘physician shortage.’These are serious claims - so it’s time for the Fact Police to take a closer look at the logic, the evidence, the economics, and the law. Does the case actually hold up, or are we misdiagnosing the problems?

I haven't watched his video (yet), and just read the executive summary.

What a load of crap. They interviewed two physicians, whom obviously were unhappy with the match. Some of the quotes in their summary come from these "transcribed interviews" and are ridiculous. Medical institutions created the Match so that residency programs would not “have to compete as hard . . . as they otherwise would have in a free market.” Says one person? What the heck? This is ridiculous -- in fact, without a match it might be easier -- I just interview people and offer them spots, then tell anyone else scheduled for an interview that the spots are gone. Then they go one to bemoan how awful SOAP is -- and let's be 100% clear, if the match goes away then EVERYONE will be in SOAP (essentially).

The match has nothing to do with any physician shortage.
The match has nothing to do with people changing programs or fields.
The match has almost nothing (if not nothing) to do with resident salaries. Already programs can compete with each other in the match with their benefit packages.

Honestly, I somewhat hope congress somehow decides to outlaw the match. The catastrophe that will ensure will be what they deserve. Will be sad for all the students who have a horrific experience.
