Here is my post from when I was let go: Terminated from residency. What should I do?
The new update is that my PD still stood firm on his recommendation I don't continue medicine, but ultimately was willing to write a "statement of fact" LoR, consisting of verification that I worked there and reason for dismissal.
So, I have added that letter to the list of LoRs and am preparing to apply to FM, IM, and PM/OM. All personal statements and the activity list are done as well.
I'll add that having dived into PM/OM, it does look like it would be challenging to match in it without having being given PGY 1 credit.
I also had a pretty rough 1st time application (5 IVs/90 apps, COMLEX 2: 46X (15 - 20th percentile), no fails, STEP 1: fail that was unreported on app, initial program aware), so I would likely need to add a bunch of programs in all specialties to have a chance.
I was thinking around 120 in FM and IM each, with all being community programs plus all in states. All other LoR would be same as application year.
The way I see it, I'm looking at this cycle as "reach" and next cycle as realistic, assuming I can get some observerships with actual positive LoR.
Any thoughts on chances and reasonable expectations?
