Thanks for posting that opinion piece. It was a good read. I can not imagine myself working in the ED at 70, for many of the stated reasons. In fact, in my residency I can't think of a single physician at any of the four hospitals I work at that are of that age.

I think your bill of rights is interesting too. I am currently a PGY2 and as an EM resident it goes without saying that you work a 10 hour (11 after documentation) shift without lunch and don't bi**h holiday work... but when you think about these things in the frame of will I want to / can I do this later in life the answer is - no way!

Invest wisely, be frugal with your money, work hard and make sure you get a good job.. This way you can enjoy life, live comfortably and not be forced to work when you are in your late 50's/60.

Problem is you go from 50k to 300k or more.. people go crazy.. BUT those student loans come due, your kids need clothes, and if you try to keep up with the Joneses you will work until your body falls apart.

I would be willing to support whatever action you are willing to take. I too am ready to blow the whistle on this "game". We have to protect ourselves... no one else is.

I'm just tired of us being the dumping ground for every crazy "customer service" issue that administration wants. There is never any discussion. It's always "you will do this or we will not renew your contract".
