Hi everyone!
I was talking to another fellow applicant who told me that Tufts is no longer accepting Canadians.
I tried calling Tufts personally to check if this was true but only could get to their voicemail.

Does anyone know whether this is true or not? 😕

They apparently still accept Canadian DAT scores, so I imagine they do.

I really hope so!! they are one of my top choices!!
Apparently this rumor was started because of people looked at their websites and it stated students from 30 US states enrolled but nothing else under internationl.🙁🙁

On Predents, I don't see a single international student that got an interview.. This is worrying me a bit..I suddenly feel taking off the school now. I mean this will at least save me more than $150.

Yeah, I won't bother applying to that school. When I applied they told me that my RC score wasn't good enough (told me that I needed at least a 22), but as it turned out they also rejected one of my friends who got a 24.

Don't lose sleep over one decent school as there are schools that are better and accept internationals.

I just checked too..
and I also checked the website that has statistics for the incoming class and if you add the % up, it is 100% from 30 states..🙁

I'm thinking the same thing..$150 is quite a bit of money..

whoa..22 RC is minimal?! I thought 22 is very competitive already..
is your friend who got rejected Canadian?😕

Isn't it a little misleading? The Tufts admission FAQ says they don't discriminate from US or any country...😕

dammit, they better at least give me an interview for paying money to apply.

akrhpwe3r89sdfsofjaso gah!!!!

I know....same situation!!!! I really thought they were canadian friendly too!! that's why it is such a big blow to me..not to mention I have relatives in Boston...

does it still say that on the website? let me check right now...
should I be slightly hopeful? 🙄

you are right!!!!!!!!!!!!
it says:

Q. Does the Admissions Committee give preference to Massachusetts' residents?
A. No. Tufts University is a private institution and therefore does not give preference to applicants based on residency, either within the US or outside the country.

😕😕😕😕😕 but then how can 100% of people under incoming statistics come from only the states then?😕😕😕

There's a whole lot more applicants form the 50 states than from Canada. It just happened. I like to consult this silly ADEA book. Lots of other schools had no Canadians enroll last time too. It looks like about 100 Canadians total got seats (out of the almost 5000 US seats available).

There was a thread while back on this topic and it seemed like No Canadian got an interview from them this year !!! I also heard they have concerns about how Canadians can finance their studies for Tufts and ...

Did any Canadian got interview at Midwestern ?

so it sounds like it's not because they don't accept Canadians but because either 1) not a lot of Canadians applied therefore the probability of a Canadian being accepted is smaller or 2) all US applicants happened to be more competitive than Canadian applicants and therefore, even viewed equally, they received 100% seats?

but it is still strange that not even one Canadian received an interview from tufts!!😕

Good question.
This makes me wonder about other schools too.. like Temple as well?😕

I'm sure they're open to everyone (they'll definitely take your dollars). But it could just be a numbers thing (lots more US than Canadian), even though they get a large amount of applications. Or maybe they have a different unwritten standard or something (like they want really high DATs or something). I never noticed before, but being Canadian isn't so awesome when applying to dental school. Any idea how many apply altogether from Canada?

I just checked my ADEA 2011 Official Guide..
under Origin of international enrollees for Tufts: it says.."N/A"

oh! but then under Applicatons are accepted from non US citizens residents: it says "Yes"

I dont see anywhere where I can look in this book that tells me how many out of country applicants applied.. 🙁

okay..so I just checked all the charts at the front of the book..
it does tell me that out of 4246 applicants, 321 were accepted.
out of 321 accepted, 16% are in state and 84% are out of state.

however, it still didn't tell me anything about Canadians.. 🙁

sorry guys! I tried my best..
if anyone knows, please post!!

I heard Midwestern interviews and accepts international students, but you have to provide a bank statement that shows you'll be to finance all 4 years of your education.

I know they say that but I am curious if they did interview anyone. You have to have 400 K in your American account !! That is alot Cash and not sure how many people have that kind of money laying around. I even asked them last year if a letter from Canadian Bank which shows a Student Line of Credit will work and their answer was: NO 😉 🙂

wow!! you are awesome!! at least with these, we will have a better picture!!👍 thanks!!😀

Awesome post, you don't happen to have the #'s for all international students broken down by school do you?

I am trying to figure out if it is even possible what my buddy told me about Univ. of Colorado; that the school is increasing the class size to add A LOT of international students (i.e. 30 more seats) and the increased seats won't do anything for US/In-State residents. I didn't think there were any schools (with the exception of NYU and BU) that had that many international students and I find this hard to believe. I have tried calling the school for the last few days but have had no luck getting through to anyone.

heard they used to accept a lot of canadians.

but that fell out of favour as some people started defaulting on their tuition since canadian loans don't cover everything like US student loans.

I updated what I posted above to include the breakdown for the international enrollees. There was a huge drop in numbers from 2009 to 2010.

Terrific post. It clearly shows that non-Canadian internationals have more difficulty of getting accepted than Canadian internationals. It is also a good general guide as to where international students should or shouldn't apply.

Take it from me. If I had to re-do it again, I won't have applied to Tufts, Temple and Maryland. Those schools simply don't accept internationals. I applied thinking that exceptions could be made, but it turns out that sometimes you just can't beat the system.

Good luck to you all international applicants.
