ok I'm not in medicine, but reading some other forums here it seems really negative about women in medicine aka their looks. I know a couple of women physician students/residents and they're very pretty. I do not understand what guys are talking about when they say women residents/students etc are not as attractive - can you please just for curiousity sake tell me more exactly why? is it because they have no time to put make up? a pimple here or there? a few extra pounds? everyone has those so I don't understand whats the big deal. (i'm a female btw but feel free I want to hear honest opinions)

I'm not a guy, but here's my opinion on why:

I don't think men have any visual memory. It doesn't matter how many times a guy has seen some woman dressed up and smoking hot, when they think of women in their role as colleagues, they see them how they dress at work. And I'll be the first to admit that my goal at work is for my clothes and hair not to hinder me from doing my job. Looking hot is counterproductive.

Most of the women I know look great when they go out. But at work they look nice, not great.

ok I'm not intelligent, but reading some other forums here it seems really negative about rabid dogs aka their looks. I know a couple of rabid dogs and they're very pretty. I do not understand what guys are talking about when they say rabid dogs are not as attractive - can you please just for curiousity sake tell me more exactly why? is it because they are foaming at the mouth? a pimple here or there? a few extra pounds? everyone has those so I don't understand whats the big deal. (i'm stupid btw but feel free I want to hear honest opinions)

i don't think this is a concensus. personally, i think there are plenty of attractive women in medicine. (and i don't think i have low standards) in fact, women who are intelligent (both book smart and socially adept) are a big turn on for me.

Why does it matter? Women do not exist provide decoration for men.

EXACTLY what I was thinking.

When I get ready in the morning for clinic/wards, my goal is to look professional for patients. Hence I pull my hair back, wear light make up, low heel shoes, dress pants, and a loose fitting nice top. I look professional, not like a sex object.

Besides, a significant minority, if not the majority, of women in medical training are already married. I look good for my husband. I don't go out of my way to look good for random male med students, residents, and attendings.

Women in medicine are beautiful, ugly, or somewhere inbetween, just like everyone else. I think the real issue is that almost all women in medicine can be downright evil. Mix together the stress that is felt by sleep deprevation, patient care, paperwork, long hours, and overbearing program directors; along with hormones, PMS, and the age-old complaint of being a woman in a male-dominated-world, and you get a woman who can be scary from time to time. Men, with our obvious long-term memory issues and lack of ability to perform abstract thought, often equate a difficult female-encounter with the fact that all women in medicine are ugly, rabid dogs who deserve to be bashed whenever possible.

One argument for women in med being less attractive is that attractive women are less likely to get good enough grades for med school. Attractive women get constant attention from guys in college and this can be really distracting as far as grades. There is probably something to this. Certainly there is something to the fact that lots of attention from the opposite sex makes it harder to get good grades. However, there are plenty of attractive women in med school and there is somethign uniquely jerkish about average looking guys passing judgment on the entire class of women in medicine.

I don't care how you think I look if you are an a**-ugly person inside.

I just wish the admissions process could screen out people like the above posters.

Call it the "King of Queens","George Costanza and Susan", "Ric Ocasik and Paulina", "any balding fat/ old guy who has some hot chick" effect.

Its nothing unique to medicine. Men who are less attractive than average, especially those with other attributes (ie, money, power, fame, etc.) are often hyper-critical about their mates.

And they can get away with it. Everyone has seen the supermodel with the ugly rock star, or even the beautiful woman with the powerful executive who lacks hair, social graces or an attractive physique.

Looks don't matter to girls.... right?...

im hotter than you.

😴

This isnt some kind of open/shut case. There's no explicit reason for why women in medical school, on average, tend to be less attractive than women in other professions. Youre attracted to who you are attracted to. Asking why is irrelevant.

Does that mean all women in medicine are necessarily ugly? No. Just not as attractive as women overall.

wawa wewa

Ve-ry nice, how much?
