btw- URochester's "applicant portal" is functioning again if you want to check your application status.

anyone get anything from Harvard or Northwestern?

I haven't gotten either yet, supposedly some people are starting to get NU secondaries though, but some ppl have also reported that the secondary link doesn't work, so who knows.

Are most people going to include an extra essay here, or you think it's better to just write (Spanish and Biology Major) something simple like that that was not included in the secondary anywhere else. This is the prompt:

If you have additional information that you would like to include with your application, compose a document offline in a word processor and upload it here.

Use this uploaded document to record any information that does not fit into the application form, including additional majors or colleges.

You may upload only one document here. Merge your information into a single file before uploading it

I attached an essay about my research there...

Harvard Medical School:

New Pathway: No essay, unless you have graduated.

Yeah, if you have graduated it gives you 4300 characters to write about what you've done since graduation.

Got Harvard's today, email invite.

Just some employment and family questions, no essays unless you're pursuing MD/PhD or another dual-degree program.

Do you receive 2nd invitation? when?

has anyone heard from Drexel, Wayne State, and NYMC?
Thanks

I got NYMC today but I'm still waiting on Drexel and Wayne State, along with Rush, University of Toledo, and KCUMB (DO).

A question about HMS' supplemental. It states that you need a LOR from each lab you have worked in. Well, I just started in some labs this summer and I don't really feel like my supervisors know me well enough to write an LOR (although I just sent them an e-mail asking). HMS claims that sending in your application by November will give it the same weight as if you sent it in earlier for admissions. Does anyone know if this is true? I think it would be better if I send my LORs in September or November, but I don't want to get a late interview.

Additionally, do you think it would be ok for persons writing the letters of rec to admit that they have only known me for a short time? I don't want to force them to make up crap. I already have 3 other LORs that I've been submitting to other medical schools.

Have you done independent research or study? (1200 character max)...if you have done research.

Briefly describe your most important exposure to clinical medicine. (1000 character max)

Briefly describe your most satisfying experience related to community service. (1000 character max)

What does it mean to be entering a profession? (1500 character max)

Please describe your long term career goals. What has been the major influence in your life that has led you in that direction? (1500 character max)

There might be other essays if you answer the felony question yes, or if you are a recent graduate.

Thanks for getting those up!

If you answer yes to the recent graduate question, they just want to know (1000 characters) what you plan to do in the next year.

Nate.

Was anyone else confused by Harvards request for LORs?

"You are requested to submit the composite letter of evaluation from your premedical advisory committee; indicate the name of the institution below. If your institution does not have such a committee, submit three letters of evaluation from teachers who know you well. Additional letters of evaluation from faculty members and others familiar with your career are strongly encouraged in either case, up to a maximum of six letters (committee packets count as one letter). Please list all evaluators below. Your application will not be reviewed until all listed letters of evaluation have been received; please notify the Admissions Office in writing of any changes to this list."

If our school is providing a committee packet with 6 letters, is it still "strongly encouraged" to provide more since the packet only counts as one?

FWIW, UIChicago is the same exact file as 2007, if you reapplicants want to tweak the original pdf/doc. Factbook is 5 years old. "I guess some things never change" - W. Axl Rose
