Who's coming with me?!?!
There's already a facebook group. Currently it only has 2 people though.

oh nice, i just joined it.
How are the interviews there...i have one in a month?
I interviewed last year in the 2007 cycle. They were the best interviews I had. 2 separate interviews by two doctors who knew my application very well. Both were very interested in my personal statement which dealt with the reasons I went into medicine and how I felt about the current state of healthcare & the patient doctor relationship. The interviews were very laid back, and both doctors were very genuine and welcoming. At other schools the interviewers went through a list of questions, or seemed to ask more impersonal questions that could be asked of anyone (which made me feel my answers had to be "better" than another interviewee). But at UF they were geared directly at me based on my individual application. Oh, and Robyn & Denise are the nicest people on earth. They go to great lengths to cut the morning tension. Even if you're not from UF, they'll make you feel right at home.
Good luck!
If you don't mind me asking, what was your outcome in the 2007 season?
I am trying to join you, but we'll see how it goes at my interview.
I was accepted in 2007 and then granted a deferral for matriculation in 2008.
I'm essentially taking a year off before the games begin.
Congrats UFMed, I'm sure it was nice not to go through the application process again. I'm interviewing soon, and hopefully I'll be coming with you.

Is UF strict on deferrals? Suppose you just want to take a year without doing a medical mission or doing something such as teach for america.

i'm sure you'll do great! just think positive and don't let the stress devour you. let me know if you get accepted 😎
i don't think they just give deferrals away. i had very compelling reasons to take the year off (i wish not to state my story/situation) and they were sympathetic to understand and accommodate me. i don't know how open they are to deferrals in general- but I believe your chances are very slim if you're not involved with one of those projects.
Thanks for the response. I was just wondering. UF is my top choice I haven't really heard anything from them yet. It sucks when I past by their offices when going to class and see the interviewees for that day.
time to revive this thread.. any 2012's out there?

Still here Zissou! Congratulations on your acceptance- I've seen your postings from time to time on the FL thread. Where are you coming from?
O-town.. how bout u?
Yeah this thread needs a little love. So what are you people looking forward at the UFCOM that you don't think you would find elsewhere?
I can't wait to get started! Like Tertbutyl said- I've always heard that at UF the class becomes a family. I'm really looking forward to meeting you guys! One of the best things UF is going to offer, besides excellent prep for the boards, is a broad exposure to different types of medicine. We will be in a rural setting for a few weeks (I think after the first semester) in a private practice/clinic, which'll def. show us the ropes. We will be practicing in sim labs while we build up our confidence. And then, we hit Shands head on. They'll even send us to Jacksonville to get the "big city" exposure. I think UF bends over backwards to give us the best of both worlds. Everything is covered.
How about you guys?

Yeah there was a girl from Duke in my interview group if I remember correctly. Like you guys, I really liked the atmosphere and the people. I think if the environment fits and the people mesh then my grades and board scores will reflect that positively. Also SEC sports is where it is at. Count me in.
I'm lookin forward to UF too. Is there a facebook group? What's it called?
We need to spread the word on the facebook group.

in the acceptance letter it says the second look weekend will be sometime in april, no specific date yet.
Hey Guys, I recently received and interview from UF a few days ago for January and was wondering if anyone knew the MSAR stats for the % of IS'ers interviewed that eventually gain acceptance...I remember hearing it was pretty good, and just wanted to reassure myself so I could have some confidence going into the interview...Hopefully, I can join you guys w/in a month or so and Congrats to everyone😀👍

I would assume that most people are either put on hold, waitlisted or accepted. Unless the interview goes really bad (and at UF my interviewers were very polite, laid back and informed on my application) I couldn't imagine being rejected. Unfortunately I have no facts/proof but I don't think they'd invite you for fun. I remember they told us the interview day is as much about selling the school to you than it is about analyzing you. So I would say your chances are probably pretty good.

Thanks for the input! It is much appreciated!😀...The reason I asked was b/c I remember hearing a statistic that was something like ~290 out of ~380 or something along those lines that are interviewed end up getting an acceptance (either a week later or come the waitlist in March-April)...Those odds seem incredible and I keep falling deeper in love with UF as every day passes. Thanks again & hopefully I'll see you in the fall👍

Best places to live in Gainesville anyone?
I'd like some input on this as well 👍
Get ready to sweat!
J/k. Really, It gets uber humid and hot from early spring to late fall though. Its a large suburban and rural environment and really laid back, as well as being a large student town. Traffic is really good to non-existent compared to O-town or J-ville, but If you are going down University avenue in the afternoon try to take 2nd ave to route around the slow traffic.
Oh, and don't let anyone tell you different, it is a huge party school there is always something happening downtown. It doesn't have the prowess in entertainment as Miami has, but you will have some very good options in bars, clubs, and other venues around. If clubbing or bars aren't your thing, I don't know what to tell you. There is not much going on, maybe bowling at alleycats or some nature trails around the county on the weekends. You are about 2.5 to 3 hours from any beach, and there aren't any large cities neighboring the city either.
I live in a town that is really close to Gainesville so I kinda grew up in it, as well as went to UF for undergrad, so PM me if you have any questions .

While I was at UF, I lived in Camelot apartments off 34th and 2nd Ave. It was really close to the law school, and it was completely doable to walk the distance from the MSB building all the way back my apartment, I did it all the time. For $680 ($340 for my share) I shared a 900 sq ft apartment 2 bed room apartment with a roommate. The rates are up but I think they are less than 800. My old roommate is living in Picadilly apartments which are pretty good and on 34th St. Their one bedroom is like 550-ish sq ft for I think $540 a month. In fact I would endorse most of apartments along 34th street between Archer and 2nd. They are student oriented, close to campus, and reasonably priced.
Many of the med-students live near the med campus on Archer. The closer you live to campus, the better, since the buses can get full in the mornings. Most of those apartments off Archer road are in decent to really nice neighborhoods and are floating around 800-1000 a month for a 2 bedroom and around 600 to 700 for a one bedroom. I know some med students living in Oxford Manor, but they are pretty loaded $. That place has its own fully stocked gym, study/business center, and the works, but it is like 700-800 for a 1 bedroom. I would think that the OX and some of the upscale apartments around it, which are really close to campus, have their prices just above 1000 for a two bedroom.
You can always try like a 4 bedroom Quad, if you are comfortable being paired up with random strangers, many of whom are not even students. But I have heard horror stories about students paired up with the worst and most obnoxious roommates, and the management not willing to resolve issues between tenants in a quad.
From personal experience, I would also recommend staying out of the student ghetto, which are some of the neighborhoods and apartments close to the area of (13th street and University Ave.) Many friends of mine have had their apartments or cars broken into in that area, and again sometimes, but not always, the managment may be unwilling to assist.
I would recommend Apartment Finders to anybody looking for an apartment. They are how I found mine and I didn't pay them anything; however, I don't know for sure if they still aren't charging anything.
Good luck and Congrats to everybody accepted to UF 👍!

Thanks a lot ufgrad00! This is very helpful information. I plan on visiting Gainesville a few more times before I make anything official as far as living arrangements. I think the party scene is a good option for the few times we won't be studying. I also find it perfect that there are many nature trails around the area. Thanks again for the input!
wake up thread!! any current med students wish to share their opinions on their experiences at uf so far?
Just got back from my interview at Shands...I was so floored by this institution and the environment of the city, that I desperately want that call later in the week from my interviewer and withdraw my apps everywhere else😍...*Knocks on wood* Hope to maybe see you guys there next year!
Thanks man 🙂 ...Good luck to everyone else under review tonight

Hey is tht you fool? LOL, if it is you that is funny. I just got back from Gainesville too and I really appreciated the atmosphere and my impressions of the falculty were they really cared about being at UF and teaching.
I wanted to ask a question however. My first interviewer was awesome and I know I performed really well. My second interviewer seemed to have some doubts about my application and I don't know if that person just wanted to figure out what my reaction would be or if they perhaps might have prejudged me. I have heard of people having experiences like this and my question I guess is how was your interviews that were a little bit intense per se, did you get in and how did you feel thereafter. As a side note, I believe I performed equally as well and answered every quesiton in honest and truth so I hope he felt I was sincere and capable of being a UF student. Perhaps I didn't come from Harvard or Yale but I know I will be an awesome doctor one day.
Cheers and I really hope to hear back from UF Soon.

It's great to be a FLORIDA GATOR!!! Looking forward to working with and seeing you guys in the fall!👍

There's still always some left during or after August in the complexes near the university along 34th street as well as Archer, but I would suggest to look in July if you want a prefered apt. Some complexes will go ahead and let you sign a conditional lease before you move in, if they know the current tenants are moving out in like a few weeks.

Does anyone have any details about sending in additional required information to UF before matriculation, like immunization forms? I had sent in the deposit and acceptance form way back, and just want to make sure that we didn't have to send in anything else yet.
Thanks!
Thanks!

From what I know we are going to get flooded with forms, immunizations, finaid and misc. stuff all summer before matriculation. UF will hold off on sending these documents until after May 15th- when accepted applicants make their final decision. Once it's late-May UF will know who is coming home to Gainesville, expect big packets arriving 🙂
CONGRATS SOFLAKNIGHT!
Thanks man! Now I just hope UCF doesn't schedule anymore games against the Gators in the future 😀 👍
