I am a little surprised at some of the people that they out right accepted. Some of the people I go to school with that got accepted should have been waitlisted IMO, b/c they waitlisted one girl that I KNOW had better stats by far than a few people that they let in even without waitlisting...

It's dangerous to say this because you never know the full picture of someone's application. Their GPA/GRE is not the entire picture. They may have had extracurriculars that you're not aware of, really interesting jobs, unique experiences, etc. They also could have special circumstances of which you're unaware. So...don't be so hasty.

I know that, and I was being careful about it b/c I know the people really well that I am talking about. I am just reall shocked that this one girl would NOT get in.

Gotcha. That makes sense, then. 🙂

LVT2DVM, i am so sorry to hear your news. That is horrible, I have no clue why you would not be accepted. It seems like a huge loss for them. good luck, the carribean seems like a great place to be. One of my friends from high school i think is going there next year. it would be fun to go to vet school on a beach!!

Thanks for your kind words. However, as I posted is some other threads I wont be able to go to SMU (carib) because I could not qualify for the enormous private loans required to attend that school. They do not participate with Federal Stafford loans so that is not an option. This is what makes my UGA rejection so much harder to swallow. Im so happy for you guys and Im glad you will never have to go through this again. And I just know Veggirl going to get a call very soon. Good Luck to all.

LVT2DVM, I'm so sorry to hear about this... you'd think they'd be able to recognize your obvious devotion to becoming a vet, and give you a chance!

I know you've posted this all before, but what about the other caribbean schools? It seems to me that once you're thinking of going to a limited-accrediation school on the beach 😀 they might all be good options. Might Ross or SGU have other funding options available?

I absolutely would go that route (SGU or Ross) if I only had myself to think about but I have SO and children so my only option is to retake the GRE and apply again next cycle. Or move....which we are considering.

I"m really sorry to hear this. Didn't sound like your chances with the whole DE contact thing were that great (compared to WV had 18 applicants and 6 seats),

Hey Jersey-- are these stats from last cycle or were you told in your accptance letter how many WV applicant there were this year? This is one of the things I get frustrated with UGA about. I wish they would send out emails when they know the numbers. They could easily do that. Say after December when they get everyones GRE scores and Fall term grades. Post an update on their website stating how many qualified applicants they have for each state. DE has fluctuated anywhere from 0 (yes 0 in 2003--I applied to NCSU that year..ugh!) to 11 each year. Its alot easier to be realistic if you know how many people are gunning for those 2 seats. 4 or 5 people and you have a pretty good shot. With 10 or more well then its anyones guess.

Would your family be up for moving to Georgia? At least then you'd all be together when you're in vet school!

Definately. We were all going to move if I was accepted. My SO sent out some job inquires as a backup to see what options we have and has received some really good choices. So we are just weighing all those at this point keeping in mind the states I can apply to on the PRO side of the PRO v/s CON list.

LVT, I'm so sorry to hear about GA. 🙁 That sucks. Hang in there, you'll show them yet.

Have you and your family thought about just moving to GA anyway to establish residency and try again? Also, were there reasons why you only applied to UGA? I don't know much about schools other than the ones I applied to, but I know that Kansas State, for example, takes AT LEAST half of their class from out of state. Now, you can't ever establish residency there, so it'd be OOS tuition for all four years, but at least you'd be in school. I know Iowa State similarly takes almost half of their class from out of state. Perhaps the mid-west isn't your thing, but surely applying to some schools that take a large % of OOS students would increase your chances.

Also, I would think you should return to the idea of applying to many schools in the same cycle. I know you said you've done this before, but perhaps it's worth another go. Especially if some of those schools are OOS-friendly.

Good luck. And chin up for now. You're a trooper, you'll make it through.

Yes, moving to GA is one of our options. I am considering apply to some other schools. SDN info has convinced me this is definately in my best interest. I have one major handicap. ALOT of my science courses are older than 8 years and most of the schools that take many OSS students wont accept science credits older than that. Of course I could take them over but I already have As, so I really would rather not do that. Im going to have to do some major research once I retake my GREs and decide what schools I might be competitive at. I think its all gonna hinge on my GRE and I plan to take that in May. Ill keep you guys updated. Until then Ill just concentrate on finishing up my last Ochem course. I have a BIG exam on Monday and todays news has kinda set me back on the studying, so I need to get my head back in the game..so to speak. Thanks for the advice. I do appreciate it.

😡 Oh no!!! I just got home from work today and went straight for the computer to see how you did, LVT2DVM. I am so so so sorry! I was really pulling for you! I don't know what UGA was thinking! I really hope you give it another try...maybe as a GA resident next time. I have this sign in my room that says "Never Never Never Give Up" and it has been my motivation. If I were in DE, I would buy you one! I really am sorry!! I will PM you later.
+pissed+

My coursework is over 10 years old, LVT2DVM, so I couldn't apply to Iowa or Kansas either, but I was ok with VA-MD, MN, WI and IL. Mizzou did not say anything about the age of the coursework on VCMAS but I found out later that you had to be full time student for at least a semester in the last 5 years, so it is probably out for you too. I am still bitter about the money I wasted on their app with VCMAS and the supplemental. Pfft on them!

So there are schools out there with no requirements on the age of the credits,or ones that give waivers (Michigan springs to mind) so there is hope. I do think the idea of moving to a state and trying for instate admission is a good one as well. Good Luck!

🙁 So sorry LVT I feel your pain. If I don't get in at UF, I feel that I too may be moving to Ga.

i have not decided yet, but should we start a uga cvm 2012 facebook group? could be fun to start gettting to know potential classmates. or has someone already done this and am i just bad a searching?

That's a good idea, I think... although old-timers like me find facebook weird 🙂

Is anyone going to the open house on the 4th of April? I'll be there!

I'm going to open house too. Although I'm waitlisted, so I don't know if I'll be your classmate or not...

Congrats guys!!! Seems like more GA folks are getting on SDN.

I am a 2011er and just wanted to say if any of you have questions feel free to pm me (although be patient, vet school is really busy! and I dont check SDN that often).

Also, you should definitely go to Open House! The freshman class puts it on every year and yes there is a lot LOT of kiddie stuff but there will also be a question and answer session with a vet student, tours for the accepted class of 2012 (make sure you get up to the reading room/library to get a special tour for vet students, dont wait in the line with the kids). After Open House the 2 fraternities put on a pig roast and an oyster roast and you get to meet a bunch of your classmates and ask lots of questions. I met one of my best friends in vet school at open house.

PS- get nice and hydrated before orientation, its HOT.

What will we do during orientation... I know at some schools you do some different things, but what exactly does UGA's orientation consist of?

Hey guys, can't gaurantee the tours for incoming freshman, but you should still come for sure. The frats will still do the cookouts after the formal open house and its still fun to walk around and get a feel for the school. Don't worry you will get another tour during orientation.

Orientation is just getting settled, tours, pictures, getting your ID, and getting to know your classmates. I have no idea if its a repeat of last year but if you guys do go out and do the team building stuff out at the park place then it was pretty hot. They did provide us with drinks and stuff so no worries there.

Don't be too anxious and enjoy the time you have. Youre not gonna miss out on anything. Also, there will be tons of people freaking out the first few weeks of school, we had all kinds of quiz rumors and test rumors and stuff going around. Just relax, do your thing and don't listen to everything people say.

The facebook group is also a great idea, we have one and so does the class above us. We dont use it anymore but we were able to communicate and pass information along using it. We also had a nice little dinner the night before orientation and got to know people then too. But don't rush, you will all know who everyone is before you know it.

LVT2DVM, your dedication to vet school is truly inspirational. I sent you a PM.

Thanks Spaylady!

Adding myself back in...even if it was not so great news.

So, you may have received an e-mail from the financial aid office, and wondered what to do. Actually, at UGA you can set up your e-mail and OASIS accounts right away.

UGA MyID: https://www.myweb.uga.edu/myid/
click on Students and follow the directions using your SSN.

OASIS: https://oasisweb.uga.edu/

click on the
myoasis_icon.gif
icon. This will launch a Java applet that will require your SSN and your birthdate (MMDDYY) as your initial PIN. You will then have to answer some questions and change your pin.

UGA Mail: http://ugamail.uga.edu/
Log in with your MyID. Since you probably want to use another e-mail address, follow these instructions: http://ugamail.uga.edu/fwd-filter.html Ignore step 2 because you probably won't using the UGA webmail interface if you set up forwarding, and you don't want your mailbox to fill up and cause you problems.

OASIS allows you to monitor the status of your financial aid thing. As it changes, the finaid office will notify you through the UGA e-mail.

Currently, it says financial aid will be determined in late May.

Am I the only one that has NOT received an e-mail from the financial aid department?

It's possible that you didn't put an e-mail on your FAFSA, which might cause the financial aid department to not have it.

It's possible that you didn't put an e-mail on your FAFSA, which might cause the financial aid department to not have it.

I put it on there and I've gotten mass e-mails from UGA CVM already, but nothing for financial aid...
