:bang: Edited: Looks like they shouldn't let me into dental school because I can't even figure out how a website works.

Edit 2: I don't think it is a complete waste of time anymore.

I thought since this has such an attention grabbing title I might as well post my thoughts about the practice test instead of wasting everyone's time.

I am not sure how the GUI of this test compares to test day but the interface seemed a lot more clunky than the online practice tests I have taken from Kaplan. This test doesn't have a built in calculator and I am not sure how the GUI compares to the actual DAT. I think it is probably the case that this is the same version as the 2009 test that you can send away for. Additionally one drawback is that while you can review your answers, any pictures that were in the test will not be available for you to see, so you're pretty much out of look for reviewing your mistakes on the PAT (and there was one hole punch that i really wanted to look at again afterwards- darn...)

The Bio section didn't seem to have the level of randomness that recent breakdowns would lead me to believe is in the actual DAT and though I missed 5 questions

Orgo and Gen-chem seemed startlingly easy. I missed one gen chem and 2 orgo questions.

PAT was much more difficult than Kaplan. Last Kaplan test I missed only 4 and this time I missed 10 4 of which were in angle ranking alone!

Reading comprehension was good to be exposed to. It was much harder than Kaplan where i'd been missing 3 or 4 each time and i missed 8 this time. I am glad I saw the types of question that they could throw at me as Kaplan didn't have any of the type where you have a statement and evidence and then evaluate the veracity of each.

Some of the QR questions surprised me. I have only done 10/13 math destroyer so maybe some of the questions I saw would be similar to those of the last three tests but I certainly came up against some new question types.

If anyone has questions about the online version of the test I'd be happy to answer them!

What did you do wrong or not understand the first time that made it seem like a waste of time? I'm considering buying the exam and don't want to make the same mistakes.

Also, now that you've changed your opinion, how do you think it compares to other prep materials you've used? Is it harder than the 2007 sample exam that everyone says is too easy?

Thanks!

Well instead of giving you your results by section it gives you raw scores like :

There is not an obvious link that says something like 'review test' but there is something that says 'Click Here to Continue' after you see your results. Clicking 'Click Here to Continue' however takes you back to the main menu. You have to click on a link that says 'Item Feedback' to go over the results of the test.

This practice test science section was certainly easier the the Kaplan materials and those are the only ones that I have taken thus far so I am not sure how it compares to others. Reading, Math and PAT were all harder than Kaplan though.

I took the online 2009 dat also, and would actually recommend buying the hard copy instead. The online one barely lets you review what you got wrong since most of the answers in the "review your test" page show up as gibberish. If they fix this, the test may be alright. You also get no retakes. At least you can retake the hard copy as many times as you want.

You did A LOT better than me 🙁

I highlighted and put an arrow to the results button which escaped me for so long. I still think it isn't labeled very well. Also, I have confirmed with someone that this is in fact the same test as the paper 2009, so don't order it if you already have done that one!

theres a program you can install where when your print screen it automatically saves it to a folder of your choice....wouldnt be too bad to hit it once when going through it 🙂

also...can you go back and retake test for free? or is this a 1 time shot

Nice! 1/1 during the optional break. what question did they ask you? 👍

You'd think the programmers are smart enough not to include the optional break score on your printout..

wait so it doesn't show you your score out of 30? it just shows you the raw score or when you click item feedback it tells you what your score is?

also, does anyone know how the difficulty of this test is compared to the real dat?

I've heard that it is on par, that being said its hard to know how you did since it does not standardize your exam.

Yes, it only gives you your raw score.

Huh. Well, that blows.

Thanks for answering my questions, guys! Not sure it's worth my money now. It was between this and Achiever for the last of my test prep budget, and I think Achiever just won.

I would recommend ordering the 2009 paper version of the DAT exam. Its still like $40, but it comes with a standardizing sheet and it is supposedly a good representation of the real thing.

Since this is the same as the 2009 paper exam- only online- the standardizing sheet would be applicable to this one as well. Is there a copy of the standardizing sheet online? Can anyone post a copy of theirs? I found the one for the 2007 exam, but I'm not for the 2009.

I purchased the 2009 Paper version but it did not come with a standardizing sheet. Only an answer key was included.

I pooled together a bunch of people from my pre-dental club in which we all chipped in $5 each and made free copies for each other (one person had access to a photocopy machine at work). But don't tell ADEA

If those ADEA crooks weren't so greedy... :meanie:

Yeah I'm sure its not too different than the rubric for 2007 anyways. I should probably be studying instead of worrying too much about it anyways...
