You should apply as soon as the application becomes available, which, IIRC, is in May, so you should have no problem. If you want to re-take the DAT (which, as you will rock it the first time, you won't have to 👍 :luck: ), still apply in May and send the later scores as you get them.

Does anyone know the exact date that the 2006 cycle starts? - when in May?

I think last year it was somethin like May 15 or May 16, right in the middle of the month (and right after many/most schools finish their spring semester).

So should one have their LOR's, personal statement, etc etc ready by mid May then?

I will call AADSAS this week and find out... most likely similar to last years timeline I guess.

Did you get in somewhere? Are you thinking of re-applying?

Good Luck

The application opens in mid May -- it's not important, although it'd be cool, to have your AADSAS number be 1. You just want to have the thing out as early as possible before they get swamped with apps.

I'm pretty sure you are able to send in your transcripts even before the app officially opens.

Althought you can send in your LORs to AADSAS, you can also send them directly to all the schools you are applying to. This is what I did because after all I heard about AADSAS I didn't trust them.

I'm applying during the next cycle in May and confused about personal statements!!

When writing a personal statement, is this the appropriate time when you tie in things such as obstacles you went through? (ie-- someone being terminally ill in your immediate family..etc) ??

Definately. You should send your LORs and transcripts directly to the schools, to save yourself time, ibuprofen and money on the phone bills. AADSAS is an agony to deal with and they have a penchant for messing things up.

Yup! It's where you pad out your app to make it sound more like you as opposed to "applicant x". Include things like life obstacles you overcame, what made you/why are you interested in dentistry, why you'd make a really cool dentist, why you're just in general an incredibly cool person...etc. Though I'm not sure ultimately how much rank this has (ie, I think d schools look at stats first and foremost), if your stats are borderline a strong personal statement can only help you. Write your basic draft early so you can have it critiqued by as many people as possible - parents, friends, your-cousin-who-is-an-English-teacher, and I think even ItsGavinC has a thing on his signature 😀... :luck:
