Would the july 31st mcat be too late? Any advice would greatly be appreciated

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Its getting there but id say go ahead and apply if money is not an issue. Also remember that on SDN every prompt will basically be posted. So you could ideally have all your secondaries done about the same time to submit your primary on july 31st. So then your turn around time would be quick making you not as late persay.

I'm sorry but I don't quite udnerstand, esp the part about SDN and turn around time?

Don't they hold your application until your MCAT score is in? Which mean ~Aug. 31st. That is pretty late IMO. Assuming it takes 2 weeks to verify you're getting into mid September when schools get your app. Depending on your other stats things could be difficult. The advice I was given in my school was that submitting after August will really hurt your chances a lot. What Elijah was saying is that every secondary prompt will be on this website. So you can start writing them before you have the actual app thus allowing you to send them back instantly.

Yes, I think July 31st MCAT is little too late. All the advice I have received so far mentioned that the MCAT should be taken in spring. Schools start reviewing application in late June and many schools may even start having interviews by the time your MCAT score is released. So, IMHO, one should take the MCAT by July 2nd the latest. Anything after that may hurt your chance of getting accepted.

You could get the 2ndary prompts on SDN before you technically get the secondary from the school. That instead of waiting for the email from the school on august or so and then writing, you could write it before you get it. For example, you are applying to RFU, they send you a secondary at the end of august. right when you get that secondary you could ideally have the essay already pre written so that you can just get it in asap. Instead of getting it in august then wasting a week or so trying to perfect a 2ndary.

It was just an idea but i agree with what others have said that its pushing it taking the mcat so late. Theres always people who get in applying late but even those who did get in would tell you they wished they applied earlier. Like I said really if it was me i would just wait. But if you are going to apply no matter what anyone says, then i was just trying to give some advice about how to possibly speed up the process.

It is far more important to get a high MCAT than to rush to taking the exam under-prepared for the sake of having a complete application. Plus, having your MCAT score in by the end of August, will still allow you to have a complete application 3-4 months ahead of the primary deadline at most schools that give automatic secondaries.

maybe you can put you are a disadvantaged applicant since you will be submitting your amcas so late

As long as you get your secondaries in by August/September, you will be very competitive. A lot of med school just start handing out interview in September. I think you have plenty of time if you work on your secondaries essays ahead of time or at least brainstorm about the essays prompt early one. Plus a good MCAT score will trump your application being a bit later then the rest.

So what you dont get the early interviews in September... you will get one of the many other interview dates later

Applying to medschool is a very long process. I had my interview on May 1 this year and they were reading my essays and application that I wrote almost a year ago, so dont stress about it too much.
