Don't get me wrong, I think affirmative action is a good thing, but it is starting to get out of hand. Since when does HAAAAAAVVAAAARD accept a 23 Mmmmmmmmmm CAT?

That was an interesting profile and I believe it may be true. The guy was from Uganda and got a 6 on his verbal score. He got and 8 and a 9 on the other two sections which while not stellar are not that bad either. He had a 3.4 BCPM average which is ok too.

Maybe there was something other than his stats that made Harvard want him. He had a degree Masters degree in agriculture and was an expert in soil. Harvard may have projects which involve human nutrition.

He had a whole lot of rejections too though! Two from D.O. schools and many from schools which are not very highly ranked.

Being a URM does not guarantee admission by any means. Only 40% of URM applicants are accepted according to the AAMC. That is a lower percentage than that of non URM applicants. I think in some cases Med schools completely ignore the MCAT score for certain URM applicants, because they feel it is not a good predictor of success for certain applicants, and only focus on the rest of the application.

There are good arguments for and against AA and I think we've heard all of them already on this board!

There are a million AA threads floating around, just search at the bottom of the forum page for the exact words "affirmative action" and you will find plenty to keep you going.

So funny.... The profile says he/she goes to Univ. of Central Florida. I go there and there's no agricultural/earth sciences. nothing even close. Ha Ha.... It's a BOGUS profile, guys. Nuff said.

thats what i was speculating. mdapplicants are not 100% accurate and a lot of people can lie on it, don't believe everthing you see, and when something is too good to be true it usually isn't true😛

I agree, most mdapps accounts have to be fake. So many inflated numbers it's unbelievable.

There must be something you can be doing more productive with your life, like, figuring out how to get into med school since the URMs are filling classes left and right.

Hmmmmmm...According to AAMC, the statistics indicate that despite all of the so-called "Affirmative Action" the total increase of all URMs enrolled in medical school from 2002 to 2011 was 2,481. During that same time period, the increase of the total number of whites was 2,559 and Asians was 3,560. (Ref. AAMC FACTS Table 28). So, I don't think that URMs are "filling classes left and right".
