I included Albany college of Pharmacy in the list of the school I applied to when I submitted my Pharmcas application and I paid the $100 supplemental application fee about two months ago. I got a letter in the mail on Saturday (12/31) that even thought they receive a lot of applications from qualified candidates and that they are usually forced to reject a lot of applications due to limited spots in the program {A friend in the school told me they received 4,000 applications for 120 spots last year}. I was made to understand two months ago that they won't reach a decision on all applications until April '06 and that the school do not participate in rolling admission. Did anyone receive a rejection or an offer letter from Albany college of Pharmacy?

they may have an automatic cut based on gpa or pcat score

are you a competitive applicant?

The school does not require PCAT. I have a B.Sc in Biochemistry with a gpa of 3.76

I got the acceptance letter stated on 10/19. I applied as early decision.

Try not to be too bummed... Albany is REALLY hard to get into because they tend to have very limited seats for transfer students (it is primarily a direct-entry school). It's almost not worth it to apply there as a "transfer." Also, as you already stated in your post, they do not use PCAT scores or letters of recommendation in their application review process. Basically it's just a numbers game with Albany. I'm sure you'll be successful elsewhere.

I wouldn't feel too bad about a rejection letter from them. I didn't send in the $100 because the school doesn't care for booksmart and well rounded individuals. They just care for booksmart. When speaking over the phone with a man from ACP admissions a few months back, he made it clear that they use stricly GPA to make their decision on whether you're in or not. I asked, "Do applicants who already have degrees at the time of their application have any kind of advantage over those who don't?" His answer was,"Absolutely not." I asked, "Do extracurriculars count for anything?" He said, "No. Our admissions committee is too small to review those types of things so we don't look at it." And so to verify, I said "Okay so basically you go down the list of applicants and choose those with the highest GPAs?" And he said, "That is correct."

Haha no wonder I was rejected from ACP. (Because of my GPA). But I guess it was worth to try. I received my rejection letter in the middle of December. Good luck to the ones who's waiting for the letter and who got accepted.

Should I continue to apply? Will it be a waste of money? I sent them everything except for the $100. My gpa is about 3.6.

You have a strong GPA... but specifically what are your grades in biology and chem? You don't have to post an answer, just answer it for yourself. Albs wants your science GPA to be 3.5+ as well.

I had my pharmCAS app sent to ACP just in case I somehow bombed the PCAT, which wasn't the case. So I decided to not pay their 100 dollar fee, which seems a little steep to me. Personally, I think the admissions process there is a little bit scandalist...since it is mentioned nowhere that they only look at gpa and then take your $100 anyway. I have probably received about five emails and three letters from them asking me to pay the application fee.

I totally agree with you about the admissions process. Haha in my e-mail folder titled "Albany" (which I do for all schools I get correspondence from) I have 18 e-mails from them from October til now with that attachment of the form for sending in the money. They've even called me and left a voicemail and sent me the form via postal mail. No thanks.

When did you guys send in your application to Albany?

3.6 is not good enough....I have an 3.7 Overall GPA and Science GPA of 3.5 but still got rejected.

I sent everything to Albany on October 3rd, and got the rejection letter in the middle of December. It was the first application I sent. lol.

Do you guys think Albany pick their candidates randomly in the 4.0 GPA pool since they don't require any PCAT, LORs, Personal statment, interview?

DON'T DO IT...ITS A WASTE OF $$$....GO BUY YOURSELF A GIFT INSTEAD...I had the same GPA as you. I applied in august and got a rejection letter in october. Albany isn't a transfer school, and to all you future applicants don't apply to albany even if you have a 4.0 and especially if you're out of state. Also, if you're not an early decision for albany...don't even waste your money...go buy an IPOD, new clothes, video games, lap dances, whatever floats your boat...just don't waste your money on albany
