I've been reading the posts on this site for a while. I know that some advice is helpful, so I am posting to get your opinion on what I should do now. I have already been denied by Case Western 🙁 I don't know why all it says in AADSAS is application denied. It hurts a little that I wasn't even invited for an interview. I know of a student that was accepted there for this fall who got a 18 on the DAT and has a 3.4 GPA. He is part Hispanic although he doesn't know Spanish and wasn't raised in that culture. I just can't figure out how they accept people with 18 DAT and worse GPA than me and then don't even offer an interview? Is this a trend with dental schools or does Case Western have stricter guidelines for Caucasians? I'm just scared that other schools are the same and this is the first school I've heard from. In cases like this is it okay to call the school and ask why I was denied?

That sux. More and more students are getting denied. Makes me increasingly nervous.

But I would call 'em up and ask why. You can use that to your advantage just in case you didn't get in anywhere this round. But keep up hope. It's still early in the game.

Your GPA and DAT are good. Is there some areas that your are lacking?

Ya I got the CASE denial yesterday too. Doesn't feel that great and my stats are around yours plus I am finishing my MS in Oral Science am about to publish and have worked in a dental office for 8 years. Makes you wonder what the heck they want from us.......🙁

I would say relax. Every school has a different way of filtering students out. You'll get interviews, just wait.

I got the rejection also. I have 3.6 oGPA, 3.5 sGPA, AA23, TS24, PAT22... don't know what happened. Found that out this morning and got so discouraged. I thought I would at least get an interview 🙁. Wonder what they really want

Did you guys have a low RC score?

I am sorry,

could you please answer couple q.

How did you receive the denial & When was your mailing date.

Your stats are awesome. They didn't even invite you for an interview? That's crazy.

i have 21RC... unless they took a greater deal on my first DAT which was 18RC (21 AA, 22TS)
I just checked that on AADSAS status. Mailing was 7/2

Did they tell you through email? snail mail?

Where on AADSAS did you see your rejections from case? Under school decisions? I am just curious, my stats are similar to one of the posters and worse than anothers so I am a bit worried about my chances at Case ha

That sounds a bit strange. Most of the time its because of a single low RC score but if I were you, I would call the school and ask why. There had to have been something in your file they immediately didn't like, otherwise you wouldn't have gotten the rejection so fast.

Sorry to hear about the early denials guys..

If my stats are correct, Case receives around 3000 applications and only has seats for 70 students, so there are going to be thousands of denials. They also usually only interview about 300 applicants which is only one out of every 10 applicants on average. So, 9/10 applicants won't even get an interview. You all seem to have great stats and will most likely get interviews elsewhere.

So keep your heads high and don't let this get you down! Good luck 👍

Holy crap. I can't even comprehend that kind of score not getting an interview! Best of luck man, lets hope this isnt the foreshadowing of a vicious cycle.

Do they consider a 19 on RC to be too low? I know its not awesome or anything but I never would have guessed that would be the one thing that a school denies me for.

I think Case doesn't like DAT retakers. Has to be the only reason unless he wrote outright that he wants to attend other Dental School in his Personal Statement...

Do they like a high RC score? Because I got a 23 in that section. 😀

Got a 24RC and was rejected. So the whole RC thing is bull. I got a reply on my email this morning and they said they did not like my 3.22 science gpa. I have 16 units of math C's from high school that I unfortunately had to put down because of dual enrollment. I had a 3.8 in actual college though, and a bcp of 3.6. Even got a 21 TS on the DAT. Therefore it seems to me that Case just skimmed through it and didnt see my blatant upward trend from high school to college. Thanks for the rough start Case.

Not necessarily. I went to a meeting where the dean of admissions at Case gave a class on personal statements. He said he really gave preference to creative personal statements that stood out as unusual. The examples he gave were a nutrition label describing the person, an obituary looking back on the applicants accomplishments, a cooking recipe of how the person was composed, and a completely cheesy (in my opinion but obviously not his) letter about how they make brownies in half the time it takes normal people that they take steps three steps at a time and how they out-do and stand above everybody else. I think the dean has a unique personality and likes unique individuals-not just your qualified and hard working ones.

^wow! never knew that. i poked around on their website and it says this:

"Experience indicates that students likely to be given first priority are those who have achieved superior grades in the basic sciences and who have taken an adequate sampling of courses in the social sciences and humanities to give them a broad background."

Also, they're a clinically oriented school, so perhaps they like to see a lot of shadowing hours? I dunno, but there must be another factor other than GPA and scores since a couple of you getting rejected have good stats!

in the application website, status->decisions
Maybe my personal statement didn't stand out or something.

A lot of you who have been denied had really good scores on everything. Maybe Case figures you will decide on a different school anyway since you will get plenty of interviews so why waste the interviews at Case. I can't think of any other good reason for you being rejected to quickly. Not going to complain though, it gives us average achievers a chance. 😀 No denial yet for me! (I expect it any day though and will post so we can all grumble together.)

Hey GUys! i now have an answer for all of u.
Case likes Unique applicants.

I have way WAY lower stats than you guys that got rejected.
3.3 sGPA 3.4 Overall GPA 18AA 25 PAT

but i got an INTERVIEW from them through mail today!

So my guess is they like weird people like me

Im a graffiti artist with a Fine Arts Major
i have numerous dental assisting hours caz my dad's a dentist
wrote a real good essay
and there are other unique qualities about me

guess they like weird people

I've noticed from previous posts you take a lot of pride in being weird and unique (you tend to mention it a lot). I guess I'll expect a denial as well since I am in no way eccentric based on my stats and was hoping to impress with hard work ethic, scores, etc. initially and then have my personality show more in the interview.

^i dunno. my guess is they really look at the personal statement, since that's really the only way they can tell if you're unique/weird 😛

Case cares a lot about research and gpa , especially science course load
It is a P/F school and they get a lot of applicants don't be discouraged hang in their folks

I'm going to call BS on your idea that they focus on research. I had over 3,000 hours + publications. Science course load could be a possibility since I usually only signed up for 2 heavy science classes in a given semester. However, to make up for only taking two science classes at a time I would take 19 credit hours thinking that would show a difficult course load. It is hard taking 5-6 classes and a lab while doing research full time. I'll stick with the idea that they only like weird applicants with low science scores and 25+ on PAT since they are the only ones this cycle who seem to be getting the invite on this forum. and yes my app was verified to be complete last week.

Hi Ken,

Did they update your aadsas status as well?

I applied last year to Case and they held onto my application until the very end...and then I got rejected.

I thought it's because I reapplied this year and because my GPA sucks so they denied me so quick this year... =/

Aww I'm so discouraged now...what if other schools deny me too because I reapplied last year...?

This thread is so disheartening. I am sorry for all the people who got a rejection this early. Hopefully its just an issue with Case and you get accepted to your top choices sooner than later.

Agreed...

I was really depressed when I got the rejection. I started to doubt myself and believe that this would be a hint of what to come but i've been consoled by a friend who got denied by case early like we did but accepted to multiple schools afterwards.

My school decision says "Under review/Waiting additional information" My mailing was on 7/2. I'm nervous and worried. :scared:

Don't believe everything you see on the internet. There are plenty of 3.0 gpa 18AA applicants whos stats miraculously jump to 3.8gpa 25AA after theyve been rejected. Guess they don't take rejection too well and want to take a cheap shot at the schools reputation.

Full time research, 2 science courses every semester and you don't know why you were rejected?! your profile looks like a Phd profile to me

Is the "School Decisions" tab the place to check whether you have been invited for an interview/rejected etc.? Mine has not changed at all.

So I called into Case and I asked the director of admissions why I was denied and he said that the main reason is because of my GPA. He also told me that they based their decisions mostly on GPA and competitive students have a GPA of 3.5.

I only have a GPA of 3.1 and I asked if retaking the DAT and getting a higher score would help, and he told me no.

Do you mind telling me if that GPA science or overall?

Damn. my GPA is 3.3..... My DAT (25/23/25) won't save me? I think I need to stop lurking around here for a while. You guys are making me nervous.
