Does anyone have any info about what programs are really good for peds in Chicago? I know Northwestern is very highly regarded, but I was wondering about quality of life, training, fellowship match, etc... Any info would be appreciated

In terms of NW peds... Very competitive. They say half of all peds applicants apply every year so they have pretty tight pre-interview screening as far as pediatrics go. Several well qualified applicants get passed up every year. Teaching is excellent. Residents work very hard. 10 months of Q4 call intern year. Despite this, all residents I met were very very happy. Lots of camaraderie among residents. Fellowships...they love their own. Many residents stay for fellowship and those that leave go to excellent places in every specialty. You will likely go where you want for most fields if you do well in the program. Hospital is old but they have plans for a new hospital (break ground within 1 year they say) and continually renovate the old hospital in the mean time.

Why do you rank Cook County over Rush? I don't disagree with you. I am curious to hear your reasoning.

Because I have worked with both Rush and cook county residents, county residency is very strong in training and the environment is very good. The hospital is new and good tech and ancillairy staff support.

Whereas the rush residents are very superficial and lots of time, they go to stroger hospital for their rotation.

I would say that Lutheran is underrated. I did a 3rd yr rotation. Very solid.. Good fellowships for the people there. Overall very happy. Also I think Christ has a very very highly regarded program. NW is def # 1.. childrens has a great rep..

I agree that Lutheran General and Christ are excellent. Christ is all about teaching, and Lutheran attendings are awesome.
