I was just wondering if dental schools offer 1 year deferrments for admission for a student that is accepted lets say for 2002 but prefers to start in 2003? I know that medical schools offer this option.

I know Baylor allows that.

Can I ask how do you know this? Do you know someone who got a deferrment?

i visited the school 2 weeks ago with my pre-dent society. Dr. Long, dean of admission, told us that if we have whatever reasons for that, they can hold your spot for a year.

So far there are 2 schools that allow you to defer admission.
Does anyone know about UT-Houston?

hey pakgirl, out of curiosity why are you thinking about deferring? im not sure about the dental school, but at ut med school (houston)one of my classmates tried to defer but the committee wouldnt approve it. her reasoning, as far as i know, was being too tired and worn out, so maybe that was why. you should just call them and ask.

dentista,
I will definitely be starting school at UT-Houston in August with you. I am really looking forward to it.
I was just curious about the deferrment thing b/c earlier there was a chance that my husband might be working in Dallas and with our first baby due any day now, I didn't want our family to be separated. Now that he has accepted a job in Houston, I am no longer thinking about deferrment.
I can't wait to start school!!!

By the way, do you know if we have to collect teeth for school? Also, have you gotten your financial aid reward letter yet?

regarding financial aid info, they havent started processing applications yet, but they will start soon. if you were missing any items from the application they should have notified you (for me it was a copy of my birth certificate and ss card). you should receive your letter in june as far as i know. i was told to call the first week of june to get an update.

im really excited for dental school too, but im burnt out from my college classes (im still a senior). im taking the equivalent of about 22-33 semester hours (but on a quarter system). and what kills me is that these grades dont matter. i dont know about collecting teeth but i should ask.

congratulations on your new baby!!!!!

I know Loma Linda allows you to defer. That's what several of my friends are doing this year.

Good Luck with the rest of your semester!

Just out of curiousity, where are you attending undergrad? I went to Sam Houston State University up in Huntsville.

I was trying to ask Dentista that question!
