Tips for studying veterinary prefixes and suffixes?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Check out a book called "learning Veterinary terminology" It is a really great intro book. It starts with all the basic prefix/root/suffixes of medical terminology, then goes through all basic anatomy/physiology/pathology of all the systems. Awesome book!

I would honestly say dont worry about it. As you go through vet school, you will pretty much just learn this terminology as you learn anatomy/physiology, you will see it and hear it and use it so often it will just become another part of your vocab. I'm sure there's more important/productive things you could be studying! 😀

I know that some schools offer a science/medicine latin language course. In particular many junior colleges with nursing or emt program offer one. It's not vet specific but it might be helpful. Please diregard this if you are already taking a similar course...I couldn't tell from you post whether or not that was the situation.

It's been a hobby of mine for years. It really saves my butt when one of my aninmals have a medical issue I want to know more about and I want to read up on it. My family is pretty cheap when it comes to vets (unless, like, the animals's skin is torn open and hanging) so I'm on my own most of the time and do the best I can.

I know my horse and dog veterinary handbooks are geared for the lay person but what I've learned about anatomy, terminology, etc. HELPS SO MUCH WHEN READING THAT STUFF!!! It's especially helpful with my equine lameness handbook.

So yeah, I may or may not ever go to vet school, but I have animals right now.

Hmm I THINK my college has such a course but I don't remember...I'll have to look. I know for a fact they have an EMT program.

I really like "An Illustrated Guide to Veterinary Medical Terminology" by Romich. Comes with a CD of flashcards, and there is a lot of emphasis on prefixes and suffixes. I got the 2nd edition for about $12 online.
