Congrats! What did you do differently this time relative to the two prior tries? Inquiring minds want to know.

For my first two try i was stupid enough to just rely on kaplan. This time i used Bio text book (solomon), Cliffs Ap (must), Kaplan (read once), MCAT hyperlearning books (chem and ochem is really good), destroyer (chem 3X and ochem 4X), 10 CDM test (scored 18-20), topscore. I changed a lot of things about myself. I quit my job so I can focus on this and turn my dreams into reality. I read everything till understood the concept. I was hoping at least 20 or 19 but wow I have never scored these even on practice test. On D-Day i just relaxed and went to gym (read somewhere that excercise lowers stress for next few hours) well it did. I was really calm through out the test. my practice scores were:

TS1--- bio-21 chem--23 ochem--19, QR--18, RC--20 AA--20 TS--21

TS2 ---bio--22 chem--19 ochem--20 QR--19 RC--18 AA--20 TS--21

TS3-- bio--21 chem--21 ochem--21 QR--20 RC--19 TS--21 AA--20

Kaplan CD bio--24 chem--20 ochem--19 QR--22 RC--18

ADA test bio--24 chem--25 ochem--28 QR--23 (this test is a joke)

Bio on the test was random and very different from all other test. Thnk god at the end i gotta chance to change few answers because in the begginning its really hard to stay focus.

chem i was solving problems and then i ll see that the answers are in those setup forms which i was having hard time with because i was so use to solving. Destroyer is good but little too much. Concept is more important. MCAT hyperlearning great.

Ochem is easy. I knew the destroyoer A-Z. Its good for ochem. Also MCAT hyperlearning.

RC and QR i was scared but stayed clamed. RC search and destroy is good. QR is you dont know the answer dont waste time just guess it b/c looking at the problem is not going to make any difference. Its like you know it or dont.

PAT - I was always good at it but those angles are something on real DAT.

MY GPA is 3.38 overall and 3.33 Sci GPA. shadowed two dentist (less hours), and Summer Enrichment Program in 2006. I have been trying since 2007 in the admission process. This will be third and hopefully last try.

I've been hearing a lot lately that the bio section is "random." In what way is it random? Are the question types different than those in topscore, destroyer, etc?

hey just wondering, how well did you do on the Destroyer the first time around?

If you know cliff Ap, Destoyer (read explanation and then read more from a text book if not clear) and kaplan you are fine. you dont have to read the entire text book. Dont MEMORIZE ...understand things and how process work and i think if you use pictures and diagram it is better and fun to study. I used my text book for pics and diagram. TAKE NOTES bacause few days before DAT you want to go over things you dont know or dont remember.

After reading Cliff Ap and Kaplan I was doing good on destroyer Bio but then some questions were from no where.

For chem I was doing good on those conceptual questions on destoyer beside that all those calculation problems were too much.

Ochem i went over four times. I took my DAT in late afternoon so night before i went over it and i was getting almost all correct.

Trust me if you know the concepts DAT will be easy for you. On DAT day give yourself a break before test.

good luck to EVERYONE. Remember hard word will always pay off. Read up on SDN to see what are good study materials.

amazing! No piano? Maybe I won't get that test then!! I'm scared lol.

Already had the piano second time. First time i was frapped. I think if people dont waste time on these passages they ll do good. I wasted 30 min last time on piano. Its better to miss half of all piano question and do really good on rest of the two passages. This time I try to keep all passages in 20 min time frame so that way i dont waste time on a hard passage.

That's exactly what I was thinking. So if I get Piano or Ethics..I'll just completely skip the passage and go back? You must be feeling so awesome right now!! You deserve it!

tsitneD, also...I really want to get through the sciences as quickly as you did so that I can check back. Any advice for getting through the sciences so fast? Did you not really freak out about Bio at first? I know Bio can slow us down! what section did you spend the longest on?

I did not freak out at all. Last two times i was really nervous and i think that ruins the test and its hard to focus. This time i did not care what i get I just wont let DAT bother me. I was more excited that i ll be getting done finally and get to go out.

The only time i got worried was when i was told at the test center that my drivers license expired a day before. I knew it was expired but i thought my other ID with valid date will be fine. Anyways I had to go get confirmation that i had gotten from applying online for drivers license. For this i drove to kniko's with 20 min left for my test appointment. So i ended up starting my test 20 min late from my test appointment but when i got to the center i got calm. So dont be nervous and be relaxed because if you have studied you ll be fine.

Wow, you did really great. There is no doubt that dental schools will see that you are a committed, and dedicated student: you quit your job, overcame two substandard scores, and came back with a knockout. I'm sure you will get in somewhere this time!

Okay, I'll take your advice 🙂 I think I'll be kind of nervous..But I can't wait for this all to be over with!!

Congrats to you on your acceptance to UTDB. I went to UTDB in april with my low dat scores and transcript to Dr. P and i felt so dumb compare to other students. i have done summer program there and its close to home so its my first choice. I was roaming around at the school with a friend of mine who goes there and i came across a professor who was telling me that i am not capable of D-school and i should apply to schools that accept students with low GPA and DAT. he was loud so everyone could hear him and i was so embarrassed. But anyways he was helpful too, gave me advice on what to do for interviews and all. He took my interview on the spot and said im rejected..lolz. So i have to work on my interview skills. Before he helped me he told me to go buy him a diet coke for his advice...lol.

I am positive that you will get in somewhere and I really do hope that you get in as well!

thanks man I read your post on how to do RC and other science sections and its great. I started off RC with that method but then after few questions i ll just stop reading and get to search and destroy.

How bout you come tutor me since you're in TX.

How long did you study for the 3rd try?

I quit my job on april 13th and since then i started giving 5-6 hrs but then there were somedays i gave myself a break and went out; atleast once in a week. In the last three weeks i did 9-10hr maybe even more. I was going to push my test after looking at everyones QR and RC scores but then i decided i dont care i ll see what happens.

Hey guys let me know if you guys are looking for materials to study.

I have this SAT lesson book from Testmasters I used their simple formulas for like 6-7 math problems on test day. i have markings in it but formulas are good.

I have DAT destroyer. Great for Ochem, Chem, and Bio. (condition: Like NEW)

hey do you have any friends or family that are dentist to help you get in, or are you trying to break in all by yourself?

Epic. Congratulations, now I'm motivated to stop messing around with my DAT prep all day long. Time to strap down!

im glad that my scores are inspirational that is the only reason i posted, to motivate everyone and not to give up. I was motivated by others too.

GOOD LUCK! 👍

Thank you for all your info and help! Did you use a GenChem book? which one would you recommend?

If you don't mind, which forumla's were they? QR hasn't been too good to me and I need all the help I can get.

Well those formulas are with sample questions and explanations. Typing all that will take time. typing just formulas are pointless. So i dont even know where to begin. You can look into GRE workbooks or something, you might find them. Its not that big help but might help you tackle maybe few questions. I had this SAT book from someone that helped me but GRE is also good...i think better.

Good Luck! 👍

wow, great job! I'm working on destoryer gchem right now...and it's freaking me out.

It freaked me out too but thats good..the more it ll freak you out the more you ll go after to understand those questions and their answers. In my test i had 50% concept and 50% calculation (easier than destroyer but keep yourself at destroyer level you never know). Especially know how to setup problems in their required formulas.

GL! 👍

first off, awesome job.. those are truly fantabulous scores.... secondly, i just wanted to know from all you guys if dschools look at you negatively when u write your DAT for the third time around (im planning on giving it a 3rd try so just curious) =)

I went to the dean of admission department before retaking third time, he did not mention anything about that. He actually advice me to study for two months and told me what scores will make me competitive. I think it just shows how much dedicated we are. They do expect a lot higher scores though. its not like we are getting the same test.

ur scores are really impressive.

In ur case, I think u don't have to worry about the first two DAT scores.

U made a huge difference!! 👍

9 RC--18 AA--20 TS--21

TS3-- bio--21 chem--21 ochem--21 QR--20 RC--19 TS--21 AA--20

Kaplan CD bio--24 chem--20 ochem--19 QR--22 RC--18

ADA test bio--24 chem--25 ochem--28 QR--23 (this test is a joke)

try.

is the ADA's test even worth doing in your opinion.

Oh wow, impressive scores. I'm planning to take my DAT third time as well in September (I know it's late). I also relied on Kaplan only so I think that's the problem. Can you tell me what your new strategies and materials you used that helped you raised your scores that much?

Thanks 🙂

Nice scores. Congrats on your determination - it is definitely motivating. I am probably not going to retake my exam, but I wanted your honest opinion (to the OP tsined): do you feel that Destroyer is necessary to score 25+ on both OC and GC? I can honestly tell you I knew Kaplan BB's OC section COLD and I wasn't able to pull off a really high score. My vote would be yes, since I can only speak for my experience (only used Kaplan BB). What do you think? (sorry to swagger jack your thread lol).

I think it was all about more material and knowing concepts. Doing a lot of questions and understanding why wrong or right. Know everything...what if it shows up on the real DAT. RELAX AND BE CONFIDENT..most important. I made a lot of notes to things i didnt know or kept forgetting. I have mentioned materials above.

GL!
