Traditional interview months starting in August and September. Every school does it different on the days but nobody does it on the weekend. If you get granted an interview then they will usually give you 2 dates to pick from, so you will most likely have to miss school one way or another.

How do most schools grant interviews? Do they call you or do they send out letters? When can an applicant expect to get an "invite" to be interviewed?

Normally, and earlier in the cycle, schools send out interview invites. Some indicate a certain date, while some give you choice of days, and some have you call the office and pick from the available dates. For some reasons, Fridays have been very popular among the interview days. So, if i where you, I'd arrange my sch so that i could be free from TH around noon time to allow enough time to catch a flight and get into the city of my destination in enough time and allow for a good night of sleep and prep. Having said that, interviews can be conducted on any day.. so be prepared to skip some classes.

Okay, thanks! When do the schools send out the letters? June? July? August?

considering how aadsas hasn't even sent out damn applications out yet, i very highly doubt we'll get interview invites in june/july...

as another poster said, we can probably expect them in august/september..

If you sent your application out early then you should start to hear from schools starting in August. Interview invites usually start to pick up in September and October. In regards to the earliest date, well that all depends on when a particular schools starts, which could be around the first of August such as Case or into October such as USC, when you submitted your application to AADSAS and when your file is complete with the school. As far as interview dates and days, yes, most dental schools will have you come out during the week when school is in session. I found that Thursday was a very popular day for a lot of schools on conduct interviews on for some reason, and most schools only hold them on certain days of the week (versus Monday through Friday).

Isn't a dental school interview a perfect excuse for getting out kill-me-now classes or having some extra days to study for an exam? By the way, you won't be able to "study" in your senior year.

I wish I had my interviews during school days. I had mine all during the winter break.

Wasnt the case at my undergrad school. Any type of interview was viewed as a personal affair... so even if a make up exam was offered at a time we could make, we werent allowed to since we would miss the exam w/o a "valid excuse". I got couple C's for that.

VERY TRUE!

haha, agreed. now, i did spend a lot of time trying to study... but generally did a poor job or completely failed

anyway, most of the schools i interviewed at let you pick any day mon-fri between certain dates to come in. depending on the length of their interviews, some also let you pick from various time slots on the date you choose. i think i only had one school that only gave you a choice between two days. the schools will send you letters with the available days and times and have you call them to set up an appointment.

has aadsas really not sent out you guys' stuff yet? wow, ours was sent out june 10 last year, and that was even after a few day's delay in getting the application online.

I think he means that you will be too busy with admissions stuff for the next year and plus you might be a little burnt out.

OP: CU had interviews starting in September (Sept. 17th last year was the first). and they were always on a friday.

There is no rule of thumb about interviews. Each school does it differently. If you are applying to several schools, and you are lucky enough to get an interview, I would not worry about the day of the week that it is on.

For example, my interviews were on:

Colorado-Saturday
UMKC-Monday
UNLV-Thursday
Baylor-Friday
USC-Friday
UCSF-Friday

Just realize that you might have to miss an occassional class. I would not try to arrange my schedule around possible interview dates.
