What's the deal with May 15th?

I've heard that for MD schools, applicants with more than one acceptance must pick one of the schools and drop the others.

My questions are: is this information true? Does this also apply to DO schools?

I don't know about multiple acceptance holding, but I know that it is the deadline for Touro's 2nd and final deposit payment that holds a spot. I suspect that will be a drop dead date for many folks holding onto many acceptances because they'll have to have come up with the coin.
