I believe that MCO's waitlist should be ranked and students should be informed of their status sometime in the coming weeks. Has anyone received any info or called and asked?

I called today and they said they were working on the waitlist and we should know something later this week. However, I checked my mail today and got a letter that said I had been assigned to the high priority section on the alternate list and have a good chance at gaining an acceptance. So I don't know if this is as detailed as they get as far as where one is on the waitlist or not. I might give them a call on Friday and see if I can find my exact number on the waitlist though.

I have yet to receive any mailing but I emailed the admissions office to ask about my waitlist status and was informed that I am also on the "high priority" list. They didn't say what percentage of WL candidates are a part of this list.

i got put on the high priority list too. i believe the high priority is top 1/3 of the waitlist... which historically gets in. i hate all this waiting. i don't understand... it's past may 15, shouldn't the spots be opened up now?

Does anyone know if you can find out your exact spot on the waitlist?

I believe at the interviews that they said they would not tell you your exact spot beyond what 1/3 you were located in.

Yes, spots are opening up. I was "deferred decision" at Ohio State. They called me yesterday to offer me a spot, so I will more than likely be withdrawing from MCO.

Keep in mind that how many spots open up depend on how many of the people that they accepted (which was a higher number than their number of seats) withdrew. Some schools typically don't have much waitlist movement because they accept a large number over their number of seats. Others only accept a small number over until May 15 and then offer a lot of spots off the waitlist. The latter has something to do with some statistic that somebody calculates where it looks better if they offer fewer number of acceptances compared to # seats.

As people like me get in off the waitlists at their top choices though, seats will continue to open up at schools where we were still holding on to our one acceptance.

It seems to be a vicious cycle.

Amy

PS - Don't give up hope for awhile - my TA from organic last summer got in off MCO's waitlist in early July.

emailed and they said this:

The alternate list is not a number ranked list but rather divided into
3rds. Right now you fall into the top of the top third so my best
guess is that we will probably reach your name BUT it is not certain since
we cannot predict the stability of the accepted students. If you do
not hear from us in the next few weeks, please feel free to check back.
Thank you for your patience.

i guess theyll be swamped with emails soon
good luck everyone
take care

unfortunately, I emailed and found out I was on the middle third. They said "It is too early to tell if we will reach the middle third so please feel free to check back in several weeks." Anyone know of any situations where people came off the waitlist that far down, or any advice on what i could do. I've already written to them, and MCO, now MUO is my top choice.

I called MCO yesterday and found out that I am in the top half of the top third. She said a couple of people have already been picked from the waitlist, and that I have a good chance of getting in. So hopefully the list starts moving faster!

Good luck to everyone hoping for a spot at MCO. It's nice to see that there's been some movement already. Anyone know if there's been movement on the out of state list? (There are separate waitlists for in state and out of state applicants)

My letter says that they'll start contacting people June 15 to September 2...
apparently not?

I just wanted to wish you guys goodluck. MCO is an awesome school!!!!

For all you ohioans out there, WSU or MCO? Which school do you prefer and why?

I emailed and received the letter from the admissions office. The letter just lets you know what third you're in (High priority = top third). From the email I got though, they let me know that I'm in the lower section of the top third, and that I can check in periodically to keep track of my movement. It seems though, that if normal turnover occurs, they expect to accept most of the top third. "if normal turnover occurs your chances of acceptance remain good"

Good luck everybody...

I am also in the middle third (out-of-state)... I haven't emailed yet to find out more. When I interviewed they told us that last year they made it into the middle third, so I am hoping this means they will again this year. I have also heard that the out-of-state waitlist moves faster than the in-state... but I am not sure how much truth is in either statement... I am just hoping for the best. Good luck to all of you!

I have heard that the out of state waitlist moves faster than the in state list from several sources, including the assistant dean of admissions at MCO. If you read the MCO thread from last year you'll see an SDN'er who says he was ranked 20th on the out of state list in mid June. By July 2 he had received his acceptance. BTW I'm a fellow MCO waitlistee (middle of the top 3rd) really hoping to get in. Good luck to everyone :luck:

i'm on the in state waitlist, but things look promising. i'm "high priority" (top 3rd) and, more specifically, i'm in the top 10 on the list. hope to see all of you in toledo in aug!

what email address are you using to send your inquiries about your position on the waitlist? I have no clue where I put my letter... Thanks for your help!

Does anyone know how many people total are waitlisted each year? Any idea how many are instate / out of state?

Hey everyone,

I just finished my second yr at MCO (now renamed Medical University of Ohio) and I'm studying for the boards...so I shouldn't even be on here, but I wanted to give you guys some hope. I have 3 friends in my class who didn't get into med school here until july and even august. The one who got in during august turned out to be the number one student in the class! From what I have heard most of the top third does get accepted off the waitlist. So hang in there, enjoy your summer, and good luck!

I am going to call them either on thursday or friday and see if the list has been moving any. I called them a week and a half ago, and they told to call back if I hadn't heard anything from them in two weeks. This is driving me crazy. I just want to get in. Please call my cell MCO.

I just called the office today and was told that the out of state list has been moving "steadily". Back in mid-May I was placed in the middle of the top third and today was told that I'm approximately no. 25 on the list. I'm only speculating here but it seems that the "high priority" list is really the top half and the "medium priority" is the bottom half. I forgot to ask about the rate at which people are being pulled from the list. If someone could ask about that and report it here I would be very grateful.

i wasn't on the waitlist, but when they callled to offer me admission, the call showed up as "unknown". i usually don't answer those, but i'm glad i answered this one. just wanted to let you guys know . . ..

good luck to all of you! :luck:

I called today and asked about wl movement as well (out of state). She also mentioned that it was moving rather steadily, with approx 10-15 people coming off of it so far. She didn't tell me what number I was, but that if it would happen, it would be later and that I should check back with them in three weeks. By the way, she also told me orientation starts Aug 15, and classes start Aug 22. Good Luck.

Oh yeah, also I asked her how many people were on the high priority section, and she said she didn't know, and was completely speculating, but it could be 60, or 44... i'm guessing that means ~50ish.

I called the admissions office today and she said the in state list was moving slowly but steadily. She said 5 people had been taken off of it so far and that I was 18 on the list. She said I still had a good shot to get in. Hopefully the list starts picking up soon.

i also called today and i'm #4 on the instate list. the lady said i should probably hear back within a week to 2 weeks, so i'm definitely hopeful. however, if you look at the MUO admission statistics for 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, you'll see that the number of applicants has been increasing a lot and the class size has been going down. because of this trend, my guess is that fewer people are going to be accepted off the waitlist. they said they usually get down to the middle of the list, but i don't think it'll happen this year, especially with the way it's been moving so far.

i asked what the total number of people on the waitlists was, and she said total (instate and out) was about 100

I had the chance to drive up to Toledo and stop bye the admissions office. I learned that I was around 6 on the list. They also told me that the total list is 150 people, and divided into 1/3s which are further divided into 1/3s. The dean picks from these groupings and may not go strictly based on the rankings. If a female drops they may skip some males to replace the spot with a female or vice versa. Also, it's possible to hear before June 15 as some people have indicated here.

I called today and was given a general indication of where I am on the list... now it's 17. Anyways, the list is moving steadily.

how'd you end up moving backwards on the list? going from 6 to 17??!!

i have no idea. they won't give specific numbers. the first time i asked, i drove up to toledo and asked in person. she pulled out the list and i counted the spots she went down. she told me i was in the top 17, and she went roughly halfway down. this time i was told somewhere in the top 20. oh well, i don't care where it is as long as i can get in soon. i'm stuck on this waitlist and the UC waitlist and neither seems to be moving fast enough. we're all in the same boat so it helps getting input and feedback here.

Did they say how many or if any more people had been accepted today? Just curious because I am one spot behind you at 18.

Any news? I'd especially like to know about recent movement in the last week or so off the out of state list.

the waitlist is moving (in/out state). ksuwik, we're probably in the same area on the waitlist... we're close. i was told "it's close." i think we'll hear something in the next week.

I just called this morning and was told I'm probably in the top 20. Last Wednesday I was estimated to be somewhere between 25-27.

Finally a bit of good news. Thanks Art Vandalay. I will probably call them on Friday and see if they will give me any more information. I just wish the Cincinnati waitlist would start to pick up as well.

I called MCO again today. She first told me that the list had not changed much since I last called (a week ago). However, she told me I was in the top 10 now (somewhere around 9 or 10). Last week she said I was 18. So there must have been some sort of movement. She then informed me that I still have a good chance to get in and that they were still waiting on students holding multiple acceptances as well as those who will be receiving offers from other schools. So hopefully the list will start to move and all of us on the top priority list can get in.

Kskuwik, Are you on the instate or out of state list?

I'm out of state, and in the medium priority section.

great news guys! i just got the acceptance call! i was #4 on the instate waitlist when i called last week, so there definitely IS some sort of movement. good luck to the rest of you guys and i hope to see everyone in toledo!

Congratulations somz. It's great to see the list is moving.

I heard MCO waitlist for out of state is moving as well. Currently 15 people have been picked off it. And the entire list is "less than 100" people. That's what i was told. I myself am in the middle of the middle. So maybe next month, i'll get in if i'm lucky. Those of you on high priority seems pretty good that you'll eventually be getting in.

I called MCO today and found out only one person was picked off the instate waitlist. I really wish I would know whether I am going to get off of it or not. Either way, it would be a lot less stressful.

you'll get off. i talked to them and was told that i'll probablyl get in... it's just a question of when. a couple people dropped to go to OSU, and they're waiting on some holding multiple acceptances. hopefully we'll get in by the end of the month.

Congrats, Art. I was one of the people who dropped to go to OSU. I loved MCO, though. I'm happy for you guys.

Congrats Art Vandalay! Hopefully I'll hear from MCO soon and be able to see you there in the fall!
